    hi guys i've recently purchased a new psu following a breakdown of my old 1. (corsair CX500 on the reccomendation of some nice peeps here) i have a slight problem it seems the atx slot (next to the cpu on my motherboard is 4 pin. but the atx 12v cable coming from the psu is 8 pin?? do i just plug half of it in (or split it) or am i way off just wanted to check in with you guys b4 i blow something! thanks for any advice
    cpu: i7 2600k@4.4Ghz. mobo: asus p8z68 pro. gpu's:2x msi twin frozr GTX 580 sli. memory:mushkin 1600Mhz c7. cooler: noctua nh-d14. psu: corsair hx1050w. blu ray. case: fractal design xl. Hdd: 2x f3 1Tb raid 1. ssd: mushkin chronos 120Gb
    2nd pc: cpu:core2quad q8200@2.3Ghz. mobo:asus p5q-l. gpu:Gigabyte G! gaming 970. memory: corsair xm3 800Mhz. psu:Corsair RM1000. case: antec 300. cooler: corsair h50 Hdd: 1TB

    Just plug 4 of the pins in

      Just split it. The 8pin usually "breaks" apart into 2 x 4pin

      If not, just plug half of it in, should be fine

        If you do this, don't force it to hard - only one side of the 8 pins will fit

          your stars as always thanks a lot i thought that was the case but wanted to check another quick question while i have your attention the connections i removed from my gpu was 6 pin and 8 pin (broken psu)pcie the new psu has 2x 6 (with an extra 2 on a seperate block) i assume i just connect the extra 2 to make the 8? i guess it's a no brainer but i'm the type to bring down the national grid while changing a plug

            Yeah, one of the 6+2 pins will sort of lock together to make your 8 pin

              Yup, you got it

              The 6+2pin is essentially an 8pin (with the option of reducing to a 6pin)
