Hi all..

I just moved over from amd fx8350 to intels latest i7700k and got 16gb 2x8gb 3000mhz corsair ddr4. Got the CPU running sweet at 4.8ghz with my H80i cooler.

Looking at the ram, never really been into RAM overclocking and ive always gone for raw frequency like now 3000mhz now for example.

I set the XMP profile for the RAM

By detault the command rate is at 2T, I read online its best to run at 1T however system took noticably longer to boot at 1T (running off a 500gb samsung evo 850 ssd)

The timings are 15-17-17-35 , to which i dont really know what means but i get the general feeling is the lower them figures the better it runs?

Is there anything I can do the make the memory run better at all? My timespy CPU score gets lower than people running 6th gen i7 and mines overclocked as above..

It's been a while since I last OC'd memory as the difference is so small, its almost impossible to notice a difference with anything other than synthetic benchmarks.

Set the frequency and timings yourself (copy the XMP settings) and then nudge the last timing number down a notch and bench, if its stable then do it again. If you're lucky, you could get a 9-9-9-24 set to run at something like 8-8-8-23 but as I said, its been a while and timings have changed a lot since then.

The frequency itself can also be adjusted manually by increasing the BLCK (this will also further overclock your CPU too so keep an eye on CPU frequency).

In short, its best not to mess with it too much as it makes little to no difference unless you're chasing benchmark scores.

It's not worth the hassle that it causes when setting 1T over 2T. Don't worry about it, unless you're wanting to shave off 0.1s on a benchmark run. Set XMP and be done.

corsair tend to bin their stuff very aggressive, i doubt you will get any massive gains from pushing them, but it never hurts to try

set them 16-18-18-36 and just knock the ram multi up. it will work or not

i have no idea how well that mobo clocks ram, but the tweaktown forums are the best place for bios updates and reporting and issues you find with gb mobo.

ok thanks all ill have a fiddle, but seems the general idea to leave it alone, maybe get some faster ram if i feel the need lol

It'll make zero difference in applications and games, only a few extra points in *SOME* synthetic benchmarks. Save your hard earned cash or spend it elsewhere in the system

As above. You're already at the higher limit of what's stable without serious tinkering, which isn't worth it at the end of day. You'd get much larger benefits from something like an NVMe SSD or overclocking your CPU.

Usually if it takes much longer to boot with 1T it's because you're getting a lot of errors that have to be corrected or re-run (or just bugger things up)

really depends on the application or games. running my ram at stock cl 16 hurts my fps a little in games like squad or cs and has a pretty big impact on bake times vs my tweaked setting of cl14. but i do agree that most things which are less hardware dependant will get minimal gains.
