  • Time to move on from the old faithful going strong since 2011!

    Hi All,

The time has finally come for me to upgrade, I have had a good run. I bought the below PC way back in 2011 from Aria and its still running most games today.

    Current build:

    Case - HAF X
    Mobo - Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H Intel Z68
CPU - i5 2500K Overclocked at 4.60GHZ <-----------This thing has been a beast, powered on since 2011 and still going strong
    RAM - 16GB Mushkin Blackline DDR3 1600MHz
    GPU - GTX 570 <----------------------------------------------I have since upgraded this to a GTX 1060 6GB
    PSU - XFX Pro 850W

I now realise my FPS rates are beginning to struggle in most games and the CPU is bottle necking the GPU. Most newer games seem very CPU intensive and the current mobo does not allow me any upgrade options.

I am looking at upgrading the Mobo, Ram and CPU come late September early October. As I have been out of the technology loop since 2011 could anyone get me upto speed what I should be looking for to hopefully pull together another build that might even get close to almost 9 years before I am pushed to upgrade again.

The parts I will be salvaging are:

    Case - HAF X
    PSU - XFX Pro 850W
    GPU - GTX 1060 6GB
    Monitor - AOC Q3279VWF 31.5" 1440P
HDD - SSD and second 1TB Samsund HD103SJ
    Mobo -
    Ram -
    CPU -

Any suggestions will be much appreciated. Main uses are day to day browsing, work documents and gaming (PUBG, Battlefield V, Fallout 76 etc)

    Thanks

What sort of budget did you have in mind?

http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/?search=69204 with http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/?search=64441 would be pretty sweet...
Why did the chicken cross the road?

That looks good. Probably around 500 top end.

I dont think I will be needing another SSD either.

Is there a preference over AMD or Intel at the moment? Which Mobo chipset would I be looking at for longevity

Intel's still got the edge in some games, 2nd generation Ryzens seem to be good all rounders though.

I would add a my two cents (pennies). My last PC got totally destroyed by the PSU going wrong, granted it was older than 2011 but I would consider if not doing it now, a year or so down the line replacing the PSU, they can get more temperamental as they get older, and they do age/wear.
