  • Spec me an m.2/DDR4 compatible motherboard please!

I'm in the market for a new hard drive, and was looking at the 500GB 850 EVO currently on offer. But then I spotted the ungodly speeds of the m.2 950 and it's got me thinking...

    So, my current motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-Z68AP-D3 Socket 1155 DDR3 PCI-Express.

I'd like something which will fit all my existing components, in the same size but will allow the option to upgrade to an m.2 SSD and also to fit DDR4 RAM if I so choose.

Currently got blue lights, although that may change. But ideally something that won't clash with that colour wise if possible?

EDIT: Having looked myself at the current options, is my socket type/processor going to restrict my ability to upgrade the mobo?

yea, an old cpu is not going to work in a new mobo like that. intel stopped that kinda of silly business when they killed off 775

i went with a z170 sabretooth s a few weeks back as it was the best price for it's level of spec. asus and gigabyte seem to make the more reliable boards going off the figures, i would say look at those for what fits your budget.

Hmmm okay, in that case what cost would I be looking at for a mobo and cpu at an equivalent performance in the new range? Bearing in mind my 2500K is running at 4Ghz.

I guess I could put my current RAM in a new mobo temporarily so I don't have to basically buy a whole new computer at once just for a SSD upgrade!

Although I have been looking for an excuse to refit my rig into a Fractal R4...

(Edited title to reflect what I'm now looking for)

Current RAM is DDR3 so won't work on new DDR4 board.

This is my fav entry into Skylake gaming board, DDR4, m.2 full speed NVME, killer LAN, metal gfx slot etc

would hardly be worth a Z board with value ram and non-K processor though Coiler?

I decided I might just do a rig overhaul as I'm having to change a lot of the core components anyway. New thread for that here: http://forums.aria.co.uk/showthread....s-upgrade-spec

Although it looks like I might just hold off for the new stuff to come out as I'm in no rush, as I've just ordered a 500GB 850 Evo from you guys for now.

                I have an Asus Z-170-K.

Does the job, but not gaming.
