  • I have bought the wrong RAM

So I've stupidly bought 1.5v DDR3 RAM for this skylake build I'm doing and have just been reading about how RAM >1.35v can damage the IMC in Skylake CPUs. I presume my only option is to return the RAM as I have bought this board which I doubt can under volt the memory and I guess the memory is quite cheap and might not work at 1.35v anyway

Just been reading this article which led me to reading the memory support list for the motherboard I have purchased and it does seem to have 1.5v RAM listed on the support list and it is a 1151 board so presumably only Skylake CPUs could be in there...

If you brought it online and haven't opened it yet just return it and buy some low voltage RAM. Will save you any hassle later down the line.

So it sounds like we have 4 options:

Pay 12 and go DDR4 setup
      Pay 5 and get DDR3L
Try yolo420 and undervolt the RAM
or just roll with it as it is supported memory according to the motherboard....

        YOLO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

        undervolt it, it'll be ok

torture test the cpu and ram and if you get an error or crash rma it.

i would be shocked it they cant do 1600 cas 10 or 11 on 1.35v for sure.

but you have the choice before you open it

The only thing I'm not sure on is if the motherboard will give us the options to do that kinda thing as it's quite a cheap one. I think Arran said he might have had some experience with the board.

page would lead me to think it will work with any ddr3 ram tbh
