  • Kindle Fire

Amazon have launched their much awaited tablet device today, and also refreshed the range of the kindle ebook-reader somewhat.

Not sure if this will be US-only for a while though; I'd guess probably, the US site mentions the fire, whereas the UK site only mentions the ebook reader refresh.

At $199 US I suspect it will sell well. The most serious competitor to apple in the tablet field to date, imo.

Yeah probably. Maybe 169.99 or something if we're lucky. Even at 200 it'll still be a threat to apple for the Christmas season though I think (again, assuming it lands in the UK before then).

I suspect that, as with the kindle, the model is to subsidise the hardware and then make money back at selling content.

Engadget were reporting earlier in the week that the Fire is a poor tablet based on the Playbook, basically rushed out in time for this holiday season, and a much better Fire will appear next year. Still, if the price is right...

I think this will do really well, selling it for cost price really.

Hmm what are peoples experiences with 7" tabs? I feel it's not enough of a change from a phone to make it worth it, but please convince me otherwise

I've used a couple, more portable than 10" and the screen is a little small for constant internet browsing.

But i think this is just adding to the Kindle e-reader, they want to sell the films and videos to you as well as the music.

If it is the same hardware as the playbook then its a steal really.

looks nice but lack of camera, a microphone may be its down fall? spec though are amazing if its true the price will be lower than any competitor.
Oh and apps! is this why i was able to use the american app store, if this is going to have amazon app store the they will need to let the rest of the world in.
