      Installation issue I'd imagine. Some coolers are evidently exceeding the maximum clamp loadings.

              How does this impact temps if at all? Its creating further space between the CPU cooler base and CPU top albeit small?

                it's a bolt down retention bracket instead of the lever released stock socket top.

                the image in that post's showing the one to hold a bare ic and the image linked to has the larger cutout to fit a heatspreader.

                it sits bellow the height of the heat spreader, sitting flush with the ic and holding the pcb tight in place.
