  • cpu + motherboard for 160-180

what is the best combo of cpu and motherboard for roughly 150 at the moment. intel or amd, doesnt matter. for a friend and it will be for basic tasks and a but of gaming, not looking ultra settings just being able to play a respectable settings at 1080p, will be paired with a gtx460 and 400w psu he already has. budget is 250 and I also need to buy ram, hdd and a case which I've allocated about 100 for.

Was thinking value wise and it being a fairly rounded system, going for an athlon x4 860k which with motherboard should be about 90/100. should be decent enough with a 460 and I should be able to get everything for closer to 200 mark as well.

I'd be inclined to go down the Intel G3258 route as that adds the ability to get a 4**0K at a later date if it is needed. I wouldn't put money into a dead end platform from the get-go, at least the Intel system has room to improve, and it is actually faster than the AMD system anyway, even with half the cores.

I'd skip the Athlon and go for an FX: FX4300 with Gigabyte mobo for 125 maybe? Or replace the CPU with the 6300 for around 155.
