Hi guys, dropping by to get some informed help. I have a Radeon HD 5870, and I want to be able to run PhysX along side it. I already have the necessary drivers to enable that, I just need advice on a cheap nVidia card to run PhysX. I was looking at the GeForce 9500 GT 1GB, can get it for about £25 but that price has a tight time limit. So a response asap would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

aria comment suggested to someone already that the machine can handle up to HD 7750 or GT 640
he bought a 7750 pcie card not realising there isnt a pcie socket, im trying to find something suitable that would fit in this machine but struggling to find anything, any help please?

he spent £70 on the card he bought which was https://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Comp...roductId=55333

so im assuming he would spend roughly the same.

I bought a used PC a couple of weeks ago as my Toshiba Qosmio had to go in for yet another repair. This pc came with a gigabyte 7970 windforce and ran like a dream but was total overkill for my 1 monitor @ 1080 setup (all I have space for) and I had to use money i didnt really have for the desktop so I decided to downgrade a little to get some cash back and get a fresh warranty.

I decided on the 7870 tahiti and the only one on oc.co.uk (site I usually use) was the saphire at £210 wheras I found the xfx here for £179 so I opted to buy it here.

It came yesterday and I plugged it all in and ran the driver disk on reboot it failed with a BSOD "Page fault found in non paged area" further info points to the atikmdag.sys being the point of failiure. This happens just at the point the graphics drivers would instigate.

I booted to safe mode uninstalled the card and all drivers running driver cleaner and cccleaner in the process. lo and behold she boots up fine on the standard windows VGA driver. I then downloaded the latest amd drivers reboot and poof the BSOD is there again.

I repeat safe mode uninstall/cleaning and reboot again this time to try a different set of AMD drivers and sure enough every AMD driver causes this BSOD to happen. I rinsed and repeated this with at least 10 sets of drivers and the default amd windows would choose all with the same results.

I tried manual unpack of the atikmdag.sys and overwrite all with the same BSOD result at my wits end I even totally formatted and tried again and sure enough BSOD again.

I've been messing round with PC's for 16 years now and can only come to the conclusion that the card is DOA of sorts. If anyone can think of anything I haven't tried then please enlighten me, unfortunately aria's whole returns policy sucks balls a fact I wasn't aware of prior and despite their customer services supposedly being open on a weekend its persistent answer machine nor does their system recognise my order number to raise a RMA.

Morning

Not sure what the issue is here but games keep crashing about 10 mins in. Tried to play Showdown (it was free and I've started it so I'll finish it), Dirt 2, BFBC2 - you'll note I don't exactly play the latest titles here - all freeze then close with a little bubble popping up in the bottom right to say graphics drivers stopped working.

Any ideas on cause (not monitoring temps but not done any more overclocking on it, case is always very cool)?
Are there some known-stable drivers out there (currently on latest)
What are the chances of it being some incompatibility with the soundcard (on crash, the sound stutters/loops until I reboot)?

Annoying as I was starting to think about SLI-ing the card.

So my question is with a budget of £350 what do I go for no brand loyalty will go with the best I can get with my money nvidea or amd doesn't matter although I will say I don't really play any physx games so that wouldn't be a deal breaker. Secondly is there anything around the corner that's about to be released that would be worth while holding out for over the next month or two.

So, under stress (bitcoin mining at 98% constant load) my new XFX 7870 LE reaches 95 degrees. There doesn't appear to be any thermal throttling - is this normal or do these cards just run hot? I haven't tried looking at the temperatures under "real" conditions (i.e. games where the card isn't maxed), but I'll test using pCARS or something when I have time.
Should I look at RMA-ing? I know the airflow on my case (CoolerMaster Hyper 212 Plus), but this is stupid...

My example here:

I've got a 570 on a minimum requirement 500w psu with 2 ssd, 1 dvd and a 7200 1tb HDD

When I got the 570 I had to initially put it on a PCI express 4x slot because the 570 covered 2 of my sata ports on the x16 slot. (I was waiting to get some angled sata cables.)

On the 4x slot my card worked fine with ultra/high settings on bf3 but when I got my new sata cables i went about changing it over to the x16. After sorting that out I started it up and had several screen freezes. I don't know if the x16 slot means my 570 draws more power than on the x4 or it was some sort of other problem like drivers etc...

Any input or ideas appreciated. :thumb:

If it's the psu, I think I'll pick up a TX650M.
