Hey guys, turned my PC on today and something has gone nuts.

The cursor is showing busy ALL the time (blue spinny circle). I'm trying to do work and it is literally driving me nuts!

Task manager looks normal, nothing with high usage. No clue whats causing it, turned off Norton, no luck. Any ideas what could be doing this or how to track it down?

Also to add - removed the exclusions to Norton Auto protect and SONAR yesterday....only thing I've touched in the last week really. Plus symantec framework 32-bit keeps restarting itself even when i kill it.

Second addition - focus keeps changing without user input - ie im viewing chrome or adobe reader, then for no reason that window loses focus (nothing pops up)

This is one heck of a complicated package, almost an operating system in its own right. But it comes with so many utilities and things that you can probably throw away a lot of the stuff you now use.

There's also an active and very helpful user forum.

Not for the faint hearted but if you enjoy grappling with things like Regex and want to customise your file manager to your heart's content, the price isn't bad.

No, I don't work for them, or have shares in the business.

-Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit | Intel Core i7-2600k CPU @ 4.0ghz | ddr3 8gb of ram | Nvidia Geforce GTX 570

When im on youtube and try to watch a video in 720p, my whole web browser goes very slow. Not the buffering i mean the usability of the browser. It lags when trying to open a new tab or change volume or pause or do anything. Once the video has finished buffering the lag goes.

I primarily use firefox, this problem does not happen on google chrome.

How do i fix this?

Thanks

Fixed: Disabled all my plugins/extensions and downloading them one by one again when i needed, first thing i did was went on youtube and installed flash again and its not lagging anymore.

I've got Windows 8 installed on an SSD in my system and it was pretty quick to boot up - I think it was less than 30 seconds from power on to Windows being up and ready. However, I've noticed recently that there seems to be a longer gap between turning the power on and Windows starting up - maybe a minute or two where nothing much seems to happen and there is no image on the monitor.

Any ideas as to a possible cause or any diagnostics or other things (e.g. particular BIOS settings) I should check please?

My spec is in my profile and the system does still seems fine once it has booted up.
Cheers!

I recently formatted one of my hard drives thinking there was nothing of importance on there, and I needed the space anyway to experiment with another OS...

Since removing Bitdefender and going back to avast my system has been behaving all screwy. Like it's busy even when it's not; randomly freezing for a few seconds, mouse cursor changing to one of the other icons in the cursor set then sticking etc...

Run various scans, can't find anything wrong, nothing unusual in event viewer, all hardware appears to be ok, don't have the problem in ubuntu etc... So I figure it's either a corrupted file left over from the antivirus swap over (which I've had problems with before), except I can't find any trace of it. The other option is I've buggered up one of the reg tweaks I usually do...

So after screwing around with it for the last few days and not being able to find any sort of indicators as to where the problem is, I just thought "eff it, clean install".

Deleted the doze partition from my ssd, started a new install...

Can't find CD key :scratch

No biggy, boot into doze in trial mode and go to get the key from the backup I have, (W7CDkey.txt so it's easy to find)... I'm such a tool at times: Read the first line of this post again, and then take a wild guess at where I kept said backup copy :(

So now I'm off to route through a mountain of paper in the vain hope of finding the piece I wrote it down on last time :(
