it doesn't look too bad but I am disappointed by the lack of Gigabit Ethernet, It only has 1 port and with BT actually offering packages with speeds over 100Mb this just seems stupid, I know with our home hub 3 we use 3 of the ports so if we were to get one of the 100Mb+ packages I'm the only one who will see the benefit.

So basically over the last year I've moved to Wales and needless to say the internet isn't quite as fast we get around 1.5-2mb with a download rate of 200-250kb/s and an upload of around 0.36 mb/s (yeah I know)..
See below for speedtest

The ping is fine averaging at about 33ms, however as soon as anyone loads up a webpage or does anything on the internet game's virtually lock up and the ping spikes to about 2000ms.

I am curious if it is down to the router as we are using the default BT one (as we cannot prioritize gaming traffic) or this lag is incurable unless they upgrade the lines around here? (As the speed we have right now is the fastest we can get).
So my question is, would buying a router that can prioritize gaming traffic stop this lag or not?

Hi, whenever I go into Starbucks or Pret a Manger, I'm unable to get a WIFI connection on my netbook.

I have no problem connecting the netbook via WIFI on my home network but for some reason I get conflicts at these locations.

The netbook finds the connection at the location but then for some reason is unable to establish a connection. I always get a yellow flash and an exclamation mark next to the connection even when it says the signal strength is good?!

I had a static IP set up on my netbook, which I thought may be creating a conflict and so changed it to dynamic IP but this made no difference.

It's a HP - Mini 210-2006sa Netbook.

Any ideas, thanks.

Hey guys,

Its a bit of a random question but I am moving out of my flat in london back to my parents 200miles away..I have a broadband package from TalkTalk which I should have stopped in a month before I moved so I am paying another month.

Would I be able to take my router and connect it to my home network or even have 2 separate networks inside the house? Or as my parents use Sky..does that make a difference as all companies use BT phone lines?

Has anyone tried this before? My parents' network is crap and I have told them to Speed check the network And call sky if its lower than what they say they can provide..I couldn't bear to live with these speeds!

Many thanks,

Marc

Hi all,

I'm in a house share and the sky WiFi router simply isn't cutting it for file sharing between my server and laptops/gaming PC at the moment. I've had the idea of getting a TP-Link TL-WA901ND and using it as a separate VLAN (which is 300Mbps over the 54Mbps I'm currently getting connecting to downstairs) and bridge this and the WiFi downstairs with the internet (which can't be moved). I hope this is clear?

Also, I'm thinking of buying an gigabit Ethernet router instead and wiring that to the gaming PC and Server which will then stream to the laptops when needed.

My question is, what would you do? In terms of setting up something independent but concurrent to the existing WiFi?

Evening All looking for a bit of help with opening the Nat on my WRT320N Router. To give you an idea of my setup.
I have the BT infinity modem that you have to have to get "Fibre" connected to a sky router and then connected to a WRT320N router which is then linked to my homeplugs which are used to send my connection and stream vids over my network, I then have a lan card in my pc which Bridges my connection to my xbox 360 which is just next to my PC. Whenever I try to use xbox live my NAt type is always restricted and when I turn my xbox on it wont connect to xbox live until I perform a test on the connection which takes a few minutes and then states that I can connect but will be limited.
So doing what any sane person would do I made my way onto google typing WRT320N opening Nat and ofcourse got a few links on youtube and various forums claiming to resolve the issue. Followed the instructions to the tea and had no luck at all in opening the Nat. So what I was hoping to do was have someone from the Forum who is extremely Savvy in this kind of thing remote connect to my PC and see if they can get this sorted for me. Now I wouldnt ask for someone to give me there time for nothing so if someone is up for giving it a go I would be more than willing to gift a tenner via paypal to the person who can get this sorted.

I have a wired connection between my o2 series V router and my WDTV Live box. I like to watch American baseball via MLB TV which is available on the WDTV. Since I was "upgraded" from a series iv router to a series v, the quality of feed seems to have deteriorated (more buffering, less consistency of connectivity). In general terms (I know there will be download speed issues at certain times of day), does the quality of router have much influence in this or - as it's a wired connection - is it all down to download speed at any particular time? Thanks.
