I am Bald. :fail

I have pulled out all of my hair over this one and I could use any input you guy's could offer.

First the specs, Then the problem:

Processor: i5 2500k
Motherboard: Asus P8Z68 V-Pro
RAM: 16gb Corsair XMS3 1600mhz (4x4gb)
Power Supply: Corsair TX750 V2
CPU Cooler: Corsair H60 (Push Pull SP120 Quiet Edition Fans)
GPU: MSI R6970 Lightning
Storage: 1 x Kingston 120gb SSD, 1x Samsung F4 2tb, 1 x WD Caviar Green 2tb
Optical: LG Blu-ray Writer
Extras: 4 x Corsair AF120 Quiet Edition fans connected by molex using voltage reducers.

So, 3 weeks ago, my H60 started to show crazy high temps such as 65-75c idle which I didn't find out about until I put the processor under some stress and the computer overheated and automatically shut down. Anyway, got a new H60 through Corsair RMA and got around to fitting it over the weekend. Now I have all sorts of problems happening.
Because I had to use the stock Intel cooler whilst the H60 got RMA'd, I turned off the Asus Turbo option and ran at stock speeds. now that I have the H60 back on I turned the Turbo option back on, Went to play a game (Metro Last Light) and the computer resets. No warnings, just complete sudden reset. Tried another game (Far Cry 3) same thing again.

I thought it might be the graphics card so I downloaded Furmark. Ran several of the 15 min tests and everything was OK.
So I downloaded Prime95, soon as I hit the Blend Test, Instant reset!

With it being a blend test, I thought the RAM might be the problem. So I took them all out and tried to run the tests one stick at a time. I got a reset on every stick, so I doubt it is the RAM. I did a RAM check just to be sure and got no errors.

I turned of the Turbo option and ran the same Blend test in Prime 95, and..... the PC doesn't crash, although temps are slightly higher than usual.

I tried dialling in the overclock by myself, nothing crazy, just a stable 4.4 which has worked fine recently. Ran the Blend test and then instant reset. I am now having to run at stock clock speed.

I have monitored the temps with HW Monitor and everything seems to be running cool.

I am thinking that when the pump on the H60 failed, I cooked my processor.

Anybody got any other ideas, because I am stumped!!!

One of my PCs has taken to booting with the LAN disabled. Probably a dead BIOS battery.

I got it back in business with the usual tricks. Remove battery and reset BIOS. (Later I found that I could just turn the mains switch on and off.)

Of course, that lands me with having to reconfigure the beast. Which means going in and redoing those BIOS settings, for boot drives and so on.

Fortunately I keep screen images of the BIOS screens, but they weren't up to date. So today's first chore was to take a new set of screens on this and the other PC.

Everyone should do this from time to time, unless they have a perfect memory and/or don't change anything from the default settings.

When did you last save your BIOS?

Hi guys so my case fan had gotten pretty loud recently so I removed it, inspected it and put it back into the computer.
When I turned the computer back on I got a BIOS message telling me there was a CPU overvolt. (This happened fairly frequently if I'd removed the PSU cable.) So I shut the computer down again and power it back on but no luck.

Any ideas?

Hey guys.
I have Windows 7 and I have a bit of an issue. When I was fixing my dad's PC, I wiped the hard-drive and installed W7 on it. What I didn't know though is you can only activate Windows per one computer (I thought it was 3 activs like Office)

Unfortunately, I now do not have access to that PC (it's barely used and overseas), but every time I re-install windows I get an issue with the activation. I know there is a crack/work around you can use, but is there any "legit" way of solving this problem?

Thanks

Lol I know the title will probably get scoffed at.

I've always preferred inkjets loaded with refillable carts because not only are they much cheaper than official inks (£1 bulk ink = £66.50 Epson ink), but also cheaper than toner. I've read some bad things about refilling toner (problems with it damaging the printer, leaking etc) - and the print quality of all the laser printers I've used just seems to be a bit poor. Hence, I'd rather get another inkjet.

Basically my SX200 after 4 years is giving up, it's splashing pages with ink and the nozzles are blocked and won't unblock (despite tonnes of IPA 99% being poured through them). In its defence, it fell off a bookshelf while printing a few months back.

So I'm on the lookout for another - preferably something had relatively cheaply used though I'd be willing to drop a bit more money if there's a printer really worth the price.

I'm thinking the Epson Expression XP-305 - wireless, all-in-one, relatively compact, uses the same inks as my SX200 (so I can use the same stocks). Seems a steal at £53. EDIT: Found many described as "like new" for £35

Any personal experiences of what to avoid etc would be very much appreciated :) Cheers

Hi, in the past hour and a half my PC has crashed 2 times and it has crashed multiple times before. I want to diagnose the problem as it is really annoying especially as i spent quite a bit on it. The crashing normally occurs whenever i play Dota 2 and i am using only the processor integrated graphics as my normal GPU broke down on me a couple of days ago.

I know there is some type of program on my PC to see when a crash occurred and why it occurred but i can't remember where it is, if anyone can help it would be really grateful and once i get the error messages i'll be able to post them in this thread.

So, it would appear I've identified the issue with my P8P67 pro and why it doesn't startup sometime and has the boot device LED lit.

Despite the notes in the latest bios updates, nope - it seems it wants to boot up from my keyboard!

Now I'm using a KVM switch at the moment that is tempremental - works sometimes and ofc will always turn on to the machine that is on. What I want is to simply be able to have in essence a USB hub, two hosts and 2 devices would do fine, keyb and mouse. Video is fine, I'm happy with using the monitor switch and I've not seen a KVM that manages display ports or 2560x1440 anyway.

Go go go - find me one, or give me a clue on how to stop this flipping motherboard giving me so many headaches, brand new install of windows7 and new samsung 840 ssd installed took long enough thanks to MS and the magic of one update failing out of the 300 odd from a clean install meaning a ballache of one at a time to find which one would let me install SP1 - another story .....

For now, I know that a USB switch as described would solve the issue, at the moment I'm doing my very best to justify not spending more on a board/ram/cpu haswell :D

DT.

Hi guys

Hi guys
i recently updated my GTX550ti using the latest 320.18 driver release ... however i experience many problems with this driver and wish to warn anyone using 500 series cards which seem to be affected by this latest release.... ive been reading the nvidia forums and this isnt a isolated problem ... and as i mentioned it seems to be affecting 500 series cards ( especially the GTX560ti and GTX550ti ) ....
this may be bad news for nvidia as some guys have even reported their cards have been damaged with one guy claiming his GTX480 stopped working after installing the 320.18 release .... ive never heard of this before ... however why would he waste his own time and ours reporting this .....
theres a mixture of issues being reported, however my problems started the morning after i updated the drivers .... i was browsing the web ( emails and forums ect ) using firefox when my system froze up ( mouse stopped moving and unable to close browser using task manager ) ... a hard reboot was required and i had a further 2 freezes within a 3 hour period .... i then concluded that it must be something to do with the driver update so i
1) downloaded the previous 314.22 driver ( http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/win8-...driver-uk.html ) and installed it using a custom installation and ticking the "clean install" box
2) after installing the driver succesfully i did a system restore to the 23rd may which was 3 days prior to when the problem started
its been 3 days now and no problems ..... and from what ive read many others experienced exactly the same problems i did .... so i wont be updating the 320.18 drivers .. and to be honest unless its really needed i shall continue using the 314.22 release
so whats causing these problems and have you guys had any problems with the latest release ...... this is unusual as we normally expect problems like these from the red corner (amd ) ..... however i hope nvidia quickly sort these out ....
take care guys !

I replaced the jack on my Dell D531 a few weeks back with a brand new one, the original still worked fine but was very loose.

The replacement has lasted about a week and is starting to wobble quite badly - not at the solder joints, it's the center pin itself. There was literally none to begin with.

I've never had this with any other jack replacement. Has anyone else who does jack replacement experienced this?

Hi guys,

So I was wondering a tech fair a couple of days ago and found a PE2650 which I haggled down to £50 for.
It's just been sitting here next to me since then, now I want to start tinkering with this thing but I'm not even sure where to start.

Its got a bunch of 73gb disks installed, a raid key and 128mb of raid memory, looks pretty clean and I'm told boots to bios without issue.
I've not power tested it yet, and was looking for some advice on what to look for, in terms of internals etc, and also on where to start getting raid properly setup and Windows Server 2008 R2 installed and running.

Any advice?

For the interested;

I am just waiting until I get all the HDD's installed - I have 7 in place now - 9 more HDD's to go and one SSD and then the beast will be up and running and I can take some finished pictures - trouble is that forming the array takes a long time as drives have to be formatted and cleared before they can be written to and then the data that I have on various HDD's written to the array.

Time taken to Clear a 2Tb HDD - (Clearing is writing zeroes to the entire drive and checking for errors) approximately 30 hours (the bigger the drive, the longer it takes)

Time taken to format a 2Tb HDD - (ReiserFS journalled file system) approximately 2 minutes

Time taken to copy 2Tb of data across my home network to the array - approximately 18 hours.

I only have another 3No 2Tb drives to copy data across from then clear and use in the array then about another 3Tb of data to copy across to the array and then another couple of blank 1Tb drives and then some older 320Gb and 200GB drives to clear and then use...Hopefully another week should see the server completed.
