Two Weeks ago in the Friday thread I stated my desire for a roast on Sunday - It was not Beef as it turned out - I had roast piggy instead:

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7188/6958840041_10fcc7fba7_z.jpg

Roast tatties and nips with broccoli, French beans and mange-tout. Gravy, dollop of apple sauce on the side and plenty of crackling.

Post your roast dinners if you fancy it.

Beef has always been my favorite, pork comes in third after lamb....

Was home for the weekend so was treated to two 'sunday' roast dinners

If the thread was posted sooner I would have snapped away....roast pork on saturday, slow cooked lamb on sunday. So damn good, forgot how much I missed home food!

Don't think your Pa has ever cooked me a roast Jack (I'm probably wrong tho' you have to bear in mind that most of the time I see your folks, copious amounts of booze are involved)....Chalkie - well it's common knowledge that he's unreachable twixt 11 and 3 on a Sunday...that man loves his roast dinner!

Do you even remember what our house looks like? I swear you spend most of your time there on the sofa asleep with a beer in your hand ;)

That's a lot of meat with no veg...No roast spuds even (not that they really count as veg)?

I only have Yorkie puds with Beef = probably the reason why Roast beef is my fave.

Todays roast (chicken) was missing Bread sauce I think.

Q. Mustard or Horseradish on Beef?

Joey Propane

Don't get me wrong, I love my veg as well, but the idea of all the roast dinner meats together on a plate in a big meat orgy, slathered in gravy with yorkshire puds to mop the juices up (this is starting to sound a bit weird now...) makes me a bit weak at the knees.

I hate roast dinners :sick:boring and bland, like most British food.

Had to eat them every sunday for AAAAGGGEESSSSS just because my nan and grandad came for dinner, typical old people "roast beef and yorkshire pud" (occasionally lamb) every sunday without fail, as soon as they couldn't visit anymore no more sunday lunches :weeee.

You both have clearly not had good roast dinners. Succulent meat, crisp roast potatoes, flavoursome sides to suit the dish, fresh veg of your choice, good strong condiments all covered in delicious gravy made from homemade stock and meat juices.

Good chicken roast for instance will have herby stuffing, cranberry sauce, giblet gravy and a bit of bacon giving the strong flavours. How this can be bland is beyond me.

Roast Dinners are epic, if you don't think so then your mum/missus/gran/you sucks at cooking!

Don't get me wrong i love my mums cooking, meat puds are epic and to die for as are chilli cheese scones, i just think sunday roasts are "boring", remember guys i LIVE for chilli's and curry's (and pigs in blankets, can't get enough of them ;)).

Just my opinion, don't hate the player :P

I've definitely experienced quality roast dinners, but they really aren't anything special! I agree with the ones saying they're boring.

Roast dinners are anything but boring! They are some of the most exciting dinners you can eat with lots of different elements, different flavours and textures. Best meal of the week is definitely the roast on a sunday evening :D

Try varying your a roast a bit if you find it boring.... like for my mashed potatoes sometimes I'll boil carrots, parsnips and turnips with the potatoes and mash it all together to make a root veg mash. Or sweat off onions slowly for about half hour until they are caramelised and then put them through the mash too. Makes mash spuds taste sooo different :)

Or like your roasties.... sometimes I'll make them garlic roasties, some times herby ones with parsley/thyme and sometimes even spicy ones just for the hell of it!

And change your meat for your roast too so it's always different. Usually every second roast I do is chicken because I love having left over chicken for curries, pastas and wraps etc but then in between times I'll do pork, beef, lamb or gammon.

If you like gammon by the way try it with a cheese sauce instead of a gravy, very rich but definitely worth it :)

Although my mum does make lovely food she makes some of the most boring roasts on the planet but when I used to go to my friends house of a roast is was brilliant. Yorkshire puddings, stuffing, roasted parsnips every thing you could imagine and it was fantastic. She is the best cook I have met in a long time(well one that does not do it for a living)

A good roast dinner beats any other dish I can think of hands down. Can't beat a massive slab of perfectly cooked beef.

Chicken or Beef roast is hands down the best meal out there!

No Yorkshire puds is blasphemous indeed though..

I like muh 'taters done with Rosemary though, as well. Best freshly picked from the garden, hippy style!

Why roast steak, surely get a joint and carve it up would be cheaper??

Steak should be grilled or griddled.
