It started off when I got the 7950 and put it in, but then realised i need to reinstall windows because when my previous gfx card went wrong it corrupted the installation. So I decided to get win xp pro 64 bit (yes i do have a 64bit processor if anyone thinks i am hilariously stupid :P ) and formatted and put on a clean install.

the mobo is a GA-K8NXP-9 and i got the required x64 drivers from the nvidia site. I also got the forceware beta drivers that support the 7950 in windows 64bit. However when i tried to install the drivers they say they cannot find compatible hardware. In device manager it simply shows up as 'unknown device' on the pci slot.

It was mentioned to me that this is probably due to the old bios version not being able to recognise 2 gpu's ina single slot so i used the @bios tool and the instructions on the gigabyte website to update the bios. The process appeared to go fine, and there were no other programs running and there was no virus protection on. When at the end @bios said to restart the computer, i selected restart in windows and was greeted with a painful and long beep from my computer upon startup.

It seemed it was never going to stop so i turned the computer off then switched it back on. Again it beeped a couple of times but then started as normal, only the first screen stated that the bios version was still the old one (f4), i had been trying to update to f9.

This leads me to believe the bios update failed badly and the dual bios is kicking in.

so basically, was the whole bios idea the wrong way to go to solve the problem or if it works will it be the solution. If i do need to update the bios, is there some way of fixing this mess?

sorry its really long, i thought a thorough description would be best, thanks in advance or any help.

Try taking out the battery for 5 minutes with all power cables disconnected, it sorted out my bios, when it flashed wrongly. And kept the updated settings aswell.
