Keen price, x4 3ghz chips, but a real threat to I7? :thumbsdn: or :thumbsup:

Yeah cheap price.
It won't beat an I7 overall the tests but with a marginal OC it would win in games and such.
Is equal to a Q9450 and Q9550 thast are a good £40 more but the Intels are more efficient clock for clock and generate less heat.
A very very good buy if you already have an AM2+ Motherboard and Memory.
Kind of shot themselves in the feet releasing Socket AM3 so soon. They should have done it the other way round.
Was waiting for the Phenom II 955 Socket AM3 3.2Ghz Black Edition, but got itchy wallet syndrome so got me an I7 Rig, although i have had to RMA the memory.
From what i understand AMD stated that Mid-range was where the battle/money is, and thats where they aimed.
Keeps the prices low aswell, a great CPU, cheapish.
Phenoms have better Minimum FPS and crossfire scaling compared to I7, for a Gaming build they are better, and overclock very well.

My next big upgrade will most likely be to P2, the price does it for me, unless I7 drops considerably some time over the next 12 months.

In the next 6 or 7 months you will see the P55 Chipset for budget I7, then the Core I5 is released towards October time, thats the mainstream Version of the Nehalem Technology then Just after Xmas will be the improved versions of the I7.
I reckon buy between end of June/start of July will see the first I7 pricecut down to £215, then by October it'll be about £190.
Am just going off of the previous Intel pricecuts when it launched the Quads, and the same times pricecuts.

the P55 chipset doesn't support Nehalem's integrated memory controller. So good like with getting that working. You will need an i5 for that platform and there's been rumered to be a number of changes to the socket. but like from the 945P -> G965 chipsets. The 945 doesn't support newer C2D, and the G965 doesn't support the 45nm. It' the same socket!!
Yea go Intel for not 'changing the socket... they didn't change the socket, but they changed the specs numerous times -_-' they'll do it again!
And by the way its i7, not I7!
That's almost as bad as the Buyers on Aria putting Tb rather than TB which they are.
Tb = 1,000,000,000,000 bits
TB = 1,099,511,627,776 bytes
there are 8 bits in a byte, so...
TB = 8,796,093,022,208 bits
just a bit of a difference! 1Tb (1000Gbits) = 125GBytes

Looks like we are both wrong, it supports the Memory Controller but not the QPI.

i think the p2 are great setups for the price too, with the 920 being so cheap and clocking so well it does make the i7's a hard sell.

Looking at that the P2 x4 940 is about equal with the competition (Q9650) (ignore the CPU running on DDR3) but is about £20 cheaper! :D
