Total bummer. Case was open last night while playing WOW and I heard the dreaded click-clunk of a hard drive on the way out.... The trouble is which one was it? I have 5 in my system - 2x2 stripes and a single on its own.

Its a really annoying situation to be in because I know the different click of death noises made by drives as they are quite distinct (sad, but been in the industry a long time) but mine are all Maxtors :evil:

Now I have to backup everything everywhere just in case...

For your info:

IBM/Hitachi -> Whine....click... whine...click
Maxtor -> Clunk-click (can be quite loud)
Seagate -> Bzzz (like heavy accessing)...click
Western Digital -> tick tick tick tick clunk.

:mrgreen:

Put your ear next to each one until you find which it is?

if you want to go the listening route, get something like a screwdriver and put the pointed end against the hard drive and the handle end against your ear. The loudest noises will be coming from that hard drive, and if its the dying one, you'll know it!
