View Full Version : World of Warcraft...
Price has been reduced and I saw it in the shops a fortnight ago, so i thought I would find out what the fuss is all about...
I emerge now as a Level 27 Warlock and my eyes are bleeding from staring at the monitor for so long...
its an old game now, but is anyone still playing?
I play both GW and WoW as it happens, though I've managed to cut down on both recently. (The first step is admitting you have a problem)
It's not really fair to compare them though, they're wildly different types of game and both fantastic in their own way.
I was actually very tempted to try WoW but after hearing stories of people losing jobs over it ect...
I decided to stay clear :D

its seriously addictive if you are into that sort of thing... which it seems I am. Bah!

A decent connection will be useful if you re planning on being in a team. Its ok even when BT are having a crap day.
Guild wars FTW indeed - been playing since beta (Leandriell Illaran if anyone wants to meet up in game)
Nightfall is ace ;) What Factions :( should have been
[quote:47393551d6=\"PrivatePyle@Work\"]is a decent ADSL connection a must? i know it seems a stupid question, but my system has 1 gig of RAM and our b/b, cos we live in the sticks, is very sluggish, usually less than 1MB. i might be tempted to invest, but i'm worried it will be laggy.[/quote:47393551d6]
I'm on 10mb and sometimes it lags there end. So no biggy.
I was quite tempted to try it, but I disagree with monthly charges to play multi player games in general. I don't think they companies should have the right to charge for you for discs, THEN a monthly charge as well.
So an that basis alone I won't play it. Besides, even if I did I imagine I'd be single again very shortly afterwards :)

But they're making profit on the discs AND the month allowance, you think it takes a few million a year to employ a few spotty nerds to admin people on a server?

8 Million subscribers in december i believe.
BEsides its only 8€ a month, which works out as a magazine subscription for me
I used to play WoW
It's a phenomenal game but the problem is hitting 60 or 70 as it is now.
Firstly - and this might sound wierd to people who've never played an mmo. Reaching level cap is easy - once you're at level cap your content is essentially pvp and raiding for hot uber itamz!
Raiding can be very time consuming - a good guild will typically spend at least 3 or 4 hours on raids 3 times a week which makes it difficult for you to just pick up and play.
The reason I quit it is simple - I found myself ignoring other games - after a year I had found I'd stopped playing cs:s completely and I'd achieved everything I wanted to in game. It's brilliant as you level - alot of the content is phenomenal, especially some of the scary *** instances you find yourself going through.
Enjoy it if you've got it but be prepared to find yourself sitting down in 6 months time wondering why you never play bf2 or coh or guild wars any more.
I don't mind paying the subscription - the game does constantly develop after all, and whilst you have to pay for the Burning Crusade expansion - theres been 4 new dungeons/raid instances added to the game in the last year and a whole new zone - all supported by the subscription charge. Yes mmo's are a cash cow - but if you're used to supporting a clan server and paying £5-10 a month for that - it's no great shakes.

£8 a month, tis a lot of money to me :(

Epic gravedig.
You do realise this thread was created 4 years ago and before you posted had been at best for 3 yeas :P
hahaha!
talk about digging up a thread!
Oh well, going comment in the epic necropost.
I have a level 80 Draenei Hunter in 264/277 gear in general. But i'm slowing my play quite abit and will no longer be able to raid come Sep 13th. (Not that wiping on heroic lich king 25 is fun anyway.)
I had to give up my 80 druid, 80 tank, and 78 tank-on-pvp-server earlier this year... 2 kids + wow does not mix :D
also, Holy thread resurrection batman!
I have 6 level 80s (Yes, really. I'm that cool.) Got bored of the game after wiping on the Lich King for a few weeks. Currently taking a break with intentions of rerolling as a Worgen something-or-other as soon as Cataclysm lands.
this reminds me of south park...

That episode infuriated me. They got so much stuff wrong :p
i played WoW retail for a while, got to level 79 and then someone hacked me and changed the password.
Phoned up Blizzard (£20 phone bill later)
got the password re-changed
and they accused me of Power Leveling >.<
then it happened again later and got that account perma banned >.<
:(
so ive been playing private servers now, still have a time card sitting gathering dust so i might make an apperance (just hoping by some freak event that when cata comes out it might get unbanned lol)

I have been considering going back when Cataclysm comes out, I have a bit longer to make my mind up now as they have put the release date back a bit, not like Blizzard to do that is it?
I have an 80 Paladin and a 76 (ish) Rogue. I was addicted but mainly played the Paladin. I stopped playing after clearing Naxx (before the patch for the next one came out, can't remember the name) so I didn't get to see any new content after that. In fact they have changed the Paly seals now so I wouldn't even know how to play anymore
I used to play quite a lot. Stopped playing after Ulduar, tried for a bit again after that but a lot had changed. I always said that I would buy Cataclysm and see what it's like but im not so sure anymore. Don't want to buy it then enjoy it and waste my life away again.
i hhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaatttttttttttttteeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee wow
thanks.
i played it for 5 mins of the trial got bored
signed up on a private server where the first thing you killed took you to lvl 254, and they gave out free high level gear
ran around killing stuff for another 5 minutes, got bored

I've never really tried WoW out of principle. I'm dead against monthly subscriptions for games as it's asking for addiction since you feel obliged to play it because you've paid hundreds for it.
If you want a good game to get massivly addicted to try the 'x' series, I've managed over a month's playtime on x2 and 29 days so far on x3: Terran conflict. X3: reunion isn't really worth getting imo (only managed about 50 hours before I got bored), terran conflict is the same, just much much better.

I was dead against paying a monthly subscription too. The only way I could justify it was that if I was just playing WoW then I wouldn't be buying any other games (unless they were really really good) so paying £10 or so a month wasn't that bad when I could have been paying maybe £40 a month buying other games.

WOW is good if you want to cut back on going out and drinking, £8 a month compared to £100+ a week is a good saving. Obviously you don't want to stop going out altogether because then you would be getting into the realm of geekland

That's why I've a degree, a full-time job and go out clubbing at least 3 nights a week isn't it :p
