View Full Version : Always keep your card+batts, in your camera!
I could kick myself. Best photo I've ever taken and I'd taken my memory card out of the camera. Mine doesn't have internal memory, so the photo, once gone from the lil screen, was gone forever.
Bah.
Surely it should stay on the card?
every camera i've used has a nominal amount of memory onboard and won't let me take a pic if thats full

Sounds like a rubbish camera :P
Mine doesnt have internal memory... theres no point on mine as the onboard memory on most cameras would be full with half an image ;)
DSLR's don't have internal memory.
Moral of this story?
Always put the memory back in once you have transferred the pictures ;)
Or.... now this is a genius idea... use a cable and save yourself the hassle of messing around with cards!

And decrease battery life and transfer speeds
I concur card readers suck.
i presonally use a cable and leave mem card in camera. Can upload 4gb of pics in a couple of minutes. job done :)
My NiMH 2800 batterys last for that long I normally have a job trying to get them to run out so I can recharge them ;)
then its onto the enrgizer 15 minute charger and i'm good to go.
And decrease battery life and transfer speeds
Im sorry wonderlust, i know you helped me out earlier but i will have to disagree, :P
The time it takes you too take out your card and place it into the card reader you could have plugged it in and transferred them already, and your camera (if its a decent one) should charge when plugged in
seriously any photographers should purchase the energiser 15 min charger and 2 sets of 2800 niMH batteries. Can take over 700 pics on one charge and upload and then have to discharge them on purpose if their still going!
With two sets though its never a problem if one should run out randomly.

I got internal card readers in all my PCs :D
pop card out plug it in done.
no finding cables etc.
both my camers have no internal memory and are old so chew through batteries especially my Minalta Dimage5 :D
My camera has enough internal memory to hold 4 pictures. And my printer has a built-in card reader which is accessible on the PC, but I just connect the camera via the USB cable to the PC. It doesn't charge the camera though. The batteries have been known to die mid-transfer.
I wish I could afford a DSLR. Can someone put one in the Bargain Basement please? I don't mind if it's new. ;)
Canon 350D and other DSLRs have their own chargers and its a hell of a lot easier to use a card reader ;)

I don't think any DSLR has internal memory, though some have 2 card slots. I always carry spare cards (as well as main 16GB) as you never know when you may run out, and also a spare battery...
