View Full Version : CUSTOM GLADIATOR WORKING!

nBert
14-12-11, 03:09
This is unreal. Today at about 2:00am my freshly delivered (saturday - owned it for 3 days ) Customised Gladiator PC died. A flash ( 90% sure it came from PSU, the case is by my right shoulder and could see the flash projection on the wall - by the bottom of the case) and bang and PC is dead. I was browsing internet, no visible damage or smoke, no fuses switched in house, monitor OK. PC won't turn on of course. The PSU is corsair TX 850. Warranty must cover this. Jeez, over £1500 spent and I had fun for 3 evenings. Today is my first day off (1 of 3) and, also, my birthday ( thanks for the email btw). Yes, my beloved PC for which I was working like a donkey for weeks, straight, has died on my birthday. Spot on. I left a message on Steven's ( sales ) phone. What do next ? Please help.

Oh and the order number was SORT074072.

14-12-11, 03:40
Hiah. Sorry to hear about your build. Sounds like a dead PSU.

I would recommend posting a thread here: http://forums.aria.co.uk/forumdisplay.php/179-Warranty-returns-and-refunds-enquiries

and also ringing them up as they don't always check the forum.

Oh, and happy birthday :)

14-12-11, 03:52
Don't panic, Aria will sort this out for you.

your all under warranty so it won't cost you a penny.

It's just pure bad luck mate, Corsair Tx range PSU are very good PSU's they're actually made by Seasonic one of the top manufactures in PSU's.
I doubt anyone is to blame for this its just one of them things.

I wouldn't wait for a reply on the forums I would ring Aria first thing because you obviously want this sorting ASAP
they should arrange pickup of it there and then.

14-12-11, 06:32
Ditto what sniper said really. Aria used a decent PSU, so you're just one of the unlucky ones... Give them a ring and I'm sure they'll get it sorted for you :)

Cosford
14-12-11, 07:35
Dang that was seriously unlucky. Corsair power supplies are top notch!

Yeah, drop them a call. :)

Josh
14-12-11, 07:41
Apologies for this, I'll get one of the cserve agents to give you a call today to arrange collection of the system. As soon as we get it back and repaired it'll be shipped back out to you.

nBert
14-12-11, 08:35
Thanks for support guys. Yeah I was surprised as well that corsair blew up, I just really really hope that no other hardware was damaged/fried.

Sniperdude
14-12-11, 08:56
if anything was fried it will be replaced just get the pickup booked asap

andyn
14-12-11, 08:59
If it is the PSU chances are good that the other components are fine; half the reason for investing in a decent PSU is that on the rare occasions when they do die they are less likely to damage the rest of the computer. Either way it's under warranty and will be sorted out for you.

DanielWilliamson
14-12-11, 09:11
Just spoke to you on the phone :) It will be picked up today, have a nice birthday otherwise.

nBert
14-12-11, 09:22

I'll also get a Cserve agent to call you to confirm this.

You guys are doing a really fast turnaround on the problems for this time of year. Got to send an eMachine Nettop back myself (another supplier with awful RMA experience so dealing with eMachine direct). What's the betting we end up into months not weeks?

nBert
21-12-11, 20:31
OK now I finally got the PC and guess what. No signal from GPU. I tried all the DVI and HDMI as well. GPU is not recognised in windows, currently connected to an onboard video.
:(

Spaceboy
21-12-11, 20:47
Ouch :(

Can you see if anything (GPU) worked loose in transit ?

nBert
21-12-11, 21:04
Nope, everything is nice and tight. Honestly, I am starting to get very sad.

nBert
21-12-11, 21:06
The GPU is connected, fans spinning, power cables in. Does it need to be activated in bios or something ?

check ram take out leave one in
make sure all cables are connected
could be faulty motherboard or gpu or ram

Glent
21-12-11, 21:33
The bios may be set to onboard only, the setting is normally named default output or something similar , have a a look around and change it to PCIE

nBert
21-12-11, 21:42
check ram take out leave one in

Ram is detected in bios and all of it, and in bios all I foud was to set PCI-E speed like x1 x4 or Auto. Left it on Auto.

nBert
21-12-11, 21:45
should I try to put the card in the other x16 slot ?

Glent
21-12-11, 21:45
keep looking bud its a common settings, whats the motherboard or link to pc you bought

nBert
21-12-11, 21:47
it's ASUS P8Z68-V PRO

nBert
21-12-11, 21:54
Ok I found it in bios, changed GPU to PCI/PCIE. Still doesnt work.

Sniperdude
21-12-11, 21:57
edited sorry didnt notice you have the pc working via onboard

nBert
21-12-11, 22:01
I feel like crying. over £1500 spent.

Sniperdude
21-12-11, 22:03
do you have any other monitor cables mate.... might be worth a try

would also make sure all the power cables are firmly in

you could try it in other PCIE or Reseat it in its own one

Josh
21-12-11, 22:06
Hi apologies for this, the system was repaired and rebuilt by myself. Have you tried reseating the card? It may have come loose from the slot during transit.

The system was thoroughly put through testing and was working 100% fine which is why I suspect the card may have come loose

nBert
21-12-11, 22:06
I tried it over HDMI. Still nothing. It's still working over integrated video, both DVi and HDMI. Just nothing from the GPU

nBert

Yes, I tried reseating the GPU.

nBert
21-12-11, 22:11
Should I try the other PCIE slot ?

coiler
21-12-11, 22:11
the onbaord GPU shouldnt even be possible if the card is connected i thought?

coiler
21-12-11, 22:11
yes give the other PCI-e slot a try

nBert
21-12-11, 22:23
OK it works for now. Tried RAGE for a second and it looks fine. The only problem I have is that I had to disconnect the sound card and the cable won't let me put it in the other slot. How do I loosen it a little, Josh ? :)

Josh
21-12-11, 22:25
Is it working in the primary PCI-E slot or the second?

nBert
21-12-11, 22:26
PCI-E_2, so it is the second one.

coiler
21-12-11, 22:33
so we know the card works for sure, can you put it back in PCI-express 1 now top slot and see what happens?

nBert
21-12-11, 22:35
OK, one moment...

nBert
21-12-11, 22:42
Nope, PCIEx16_1 is not working, PCIEx16_2 is what I am using again.

nBert
21-12-11, 22:44
Which is what now makes me worry a bit as I was hoping for SLI in the future. And still I need to loosen that sound card cable. Don't want to use onboard audio while I could use Xonar.

coiler
21-12-11, 22:44
was the box damaged in transit, any drop marks dints ect?

nBert
21-12-11, 22:47
was the box damaged in transit, any drop marks dints ect?

Excellent question, I almost forgot. Yes, there is a hole in the left hand side wall of the box, at the roughly top quarter of the box. Punched right through.

21-12-11, 22:47
josh should be able to advise on relocating soundcard if it can be done.

Sounds like its been dropped from a height by couriers.

How about using it over xmas period (when you'll want it most for xmas gaming) then we collect in the new year to replace mobo? sounds like mobo PCI-e slot has been damaged in transit.

As youve not had much joy with this courier we could DPD it back to you next time, may be a better local franchise

nBert
21-12-11, 22:48
But no sign of damage on either side of the case or the window.

nBert

OK as it works for now and I am really itching for play. Let's get it done after new year.

coiler
21-12-11, 22:51
the packaging may have took most the impact but the shockwave sent through case jolted the graphics card against the PCI-e slot and damaged gold pins/ripped away from board slightly. What card is it? big and heavy im guessing?

Josh
21-12-11, 22:52
It's a Gigabyte Windforce 580 IIRC, quite a heavy card.

we can arrange collection whenever suits you in the new year :)

nBert
21-12-11, 22:52
Man I almost saw myself playing through x-mas on my laptop again :D
OK what about that soundcard now ?

Josh
21-12-11, 22:56
Soundcard cable would be a case of taking the back sidepanel off and cutting the cable ties to route it through to the lower slot.

Is it not possible to move the soundcard up?

nBert
21-12-11, 22:57
I guess I'll have to follow the cable and remove the tightening thingys ?

nBert
21-12-11, 22:58
As I thought. OK gentlemen, thanks again for your quick support. I think I'll go on my own from here. I'll get in touch again after new year. Merry Christmas and happy new year.

When we collect it and I repair it I'll ship it with the Graphics card seperately if you'd like?

Would minimise the chance of any transit damage.

Merry Xmas and new year to you too :)

nBert

That's what I call a neat cable management Josh, bravo !

nBert
21-12-11, 23:13
OK, managed to pull a few extra inches of the cable without removing the ties. Works great. Now it's time to play :D Thanks all !

Josh

Don't most secondary PCI-E slots limit the speed to 4x or so? Just in case you saw any reduction in speed...

Sniperdude
23-12-11, 23:56
depends on the board in this case no he has 2 x16 slots :)

nBert
24-12-11, 12:30
Josh, I sent you a PM.

BurningFeetMan
24-12-11, 13:36
Guys do you think the GPU problem could be to do with lucid being set up?

I believe when using a lucid setup you do connect to the motherboard DVI/HDMI and the GPU outputs don't work?

Just a thought anyway, someone else may know more (until tomorrow when i get to play with Lucid myself :) )

Josh
24-12-11, 14:10
Graphics card and board are both damaged.

All I can do is apologise and I'll get this sorted out ASAP for you.

I've sent you a pm.

Hi guys, have you resumed work yet ? I would like to get the PC picked up (once again). It's been a pain lately, stuck in a BSOD loop at booting for like 10 restarts.

09-01-12, 14:53
Hi guys, so do we want to use City Link again ? As the holiday craze is over I guess they won't be in such a hurry to toss packages around but I want to know your opinion.
By the way, how's my baby doing ?
Thanks.

Josh
10-01-12, 14:14
Hi Norbert, just an update; the Motherboard and Graphics card have been replaced and it's currently undergoing 24 hour stress testing for the overclock and system stability.

The Graphics card has been changed for an MSI GTX 580 - Which is a much nicer card and better quality.

We will ship the Graphics card in it's box to ensure it doesn't get damaged in transit if this is OK with yourself?

Any concerns please don't hesitate to send me a PM.
