View Full Version : SLi but less memory
Hello
Just installed my 2nd XFX 9800GT XXX (670MHz) and I have lost 1.5GB of ram from my system general tab (control panel). With my orginal ASUS 8800GT in my machine I went from 3.5GB in Windows XP 32bit, down to 3.0GB with the XFX 9800GT (couldnt get another ASUS 8800GT so got another card) now I have put in a 2nd XFX 9800GT i've gone from 3.0GB to 2.0GB why is this and will it affect my performance on the desktop and in games or don't worry about until I get VISTA64???
Cheers...8)
I think that this is due to the graphics aperture, and the fact your on 32bit. Just get 64bit and be done with it lol.
I wouldnt worrie about it, but i would still get vista 64
OH ok then guys thanks for the advice, think i'll get a new motherboard before I get VISTA coz i'll get the OEM version (much cheaper) and I know that the OEM version lives and dies with your mobo.
Thanks alot...8)
What do you mean it lives and dies with your mobo?
Any OS dies when your mobo dies

With the Retail version of an M$ OS you can move it to a new system, but not with the OEM, but M$ will sometimes transfer an OEM if you tell them that the Motherboard died.
Alternatively get a Slick Bios ;)
What does it matter, ive always had OEM, and the copy i bought has been installed on aboot 4 PC's
WHAT how did you do that everyone says you get OEM you need a new OEM windows if you buy a new board did you bribe them or something?
Ive used my OEM copy of Vista 32 on 3 different mobo's. Had to activate over the phone a couple of times, but it still works!
I know the oem xp had a certain time limit, so say you installed it on your pc then a few weeks later you needed to install again then I think you had to phone up to activate it..but after I think it was after 3 month or something like that you could re-install normally again
Well i just install it, you have 30 days to activate it, call them up, enter the code you see on screen to the auto service, and they read you out a code
Surely all of you know this already?
