Hello,

I am experiencing strange problem that I would like to ask you to help me with. I am trying to build an HTPC. However, I am trying a 3rd motherboard already, and none of them seems to work properly. It's always the internal graphic card, that doesn't provide any output to monitor.

Originally I thought it's the motherboard problem, but I don't think so anymore. It would be 3rd in a row, which is unusual already, and also, I tried one of the previous motherboards with an external card, which failed to work either.

So my next suspects were processor or memories, but these seem to work ok on another computer where I tried them. Beyond these, I am not sure what else could cause the problem, so not sure what my next step should be. Could anyone please give me some advice here?

Thanks...

PS I tried the VGA cable on another PC, it works too. And PSU seems to be OK too, because it always lights up the motherboard and all the coolers are working too...

Hey Kormi

Try building the system outside of the case. It may just be a case that the board is shorting somewhere on the case

Thanks, will try to do that in the evening.

If that is the case, is there anything I can do about it? I am afraid the case is kind of rare, will be hard to get replacement...

just put some plastic washers between the board and case that has sorted it for me in the past

Has the board you are using have onboard graphics?

Call it a crazy idea, but have you tested your monitor/TV on another PC?

not so crazy, and yes, I did test it already ;-)

Thanks to all who were trying to help. The problem was quite trivial eventually. The motherboard doesn't support the CPU I was trying to use first, even though it's actually newer than the processor. Both are C2D, but the other one runs on 1,333 FSB, which the motherboard apparently didn't like. I am using the older C2D 6600 now, and it works fine. Not sure what was wrong with the two previous motherboards though, because there I tried both CPUs there...

HTPC now up and running, just installing the OS, wish me luck, still need to get the TV card working on it (combo analog/DVB-T/DVB-S HD, will be fun)...
