View Full Version : Keeping your case shut

This morning, i decided to shut my case, it had been open since i had fitted the new heatsink to my X1600 pro when it decided to go into meltdown on the first day of purchase. Anyway, it had been staying at 45 ingame instead of 128 degrees. So, i decided to close my pc up and put the drives and everything into slots.

As i got on, most temps had been lowered by 10 degrees, i only have basic 80mm fans (x3) and now my graphics is at 38 idle, instead of 40, my cpu 35 instead of 45. And the case temp at 28 instead of 35.

I think that closing up cases is worth it to keep cases cool, i didnt realise how much it helped until today.

Indeed, having the case open ruins the airflow cases are usually designed to provide. It's like using the air con in your car but opening the window, pointless :)

That would be very good, but the airflow would come through too hard in my opinion, unless you had quite a few other fans blowing air out. My system would be even better if i added fans in the 4 extra slots and plated up the spaces for the pci slots.

I found with my case, that if i have my window, which is adjacant to the computer open, then the temps drop like 6 degrees.

my graphics card has buitl in temp monitor for gpu and case temp..also use sandra as well as pc wizard. I have used core temp before but that caused me problems..Like the time I had random lock ups and reboots, I replaced the psu, memory even added an active cooler on northbridge chip updated bios etc and still got the problems until I unistalled core temp..So that program cost me over £200
