Anyone bike savvy enough to tell me what I need to replace my Shimano Freewheel on my Dawes Giro 300?

Actually I think its the hub that's nacked because it now freewheels in both directions :-/

I'm thinking I just buy a whole new wheel and slot that straight in. Or just admit defeat and take the wheel to the shop.

Bearings, take it to the shop and they should be able to sort that out

you need a cassette remover and chain whip to get the freewheel off which isn't the best of jobs to fiddle around with. By the time you've bought the tools it would be faster to find an old fashioned Raleigh bike shop which did mine recently for a FIVER! ;)

Don't bother with Halfords, evans or any big chains you need to visit an old fashioned traditional bike shop, preferable one with an old guy who's been working there for 50 years

Too right, he'll charge you nothing but halford will charge you like £60 quid, just for time alone

Yeah I intended to go to one of the independent places this weekend, I do live in Cambridge, bike capital of the UK, so you can't go 100yds without finding a bike shop.

You don't realise how much you rely on something until it breaks, I had to get a smelly bus to work today, that was not fun.

Halfords = PC World in my mind.
