View Full Version : Odd behaviour BEFORE powering up

So quite a while back now, I opened an RMA about my 2 x 2GB OCZ Vista Platinum 5-4-4-15 RAM which I got from Aria. Cancelled it about a day later after finding out that the RAM was a different voltage to what the motherboard supplied, being a Gigabyte GA-MA790X-DS4. The problem was that the PC wouldn't start, and that's when I opened the RMA.

As I said though, now the RMA is closed and I would rather keep the RAM if possible. I've changed the voltage in the BIOS to 2.1V, whcih is what the RAM requires.

Now it runs fine, most of the time. I'm not entirely sure if this is regular, because I haven't really timed it, but it seems to happen once about every 5 or 6 weeks, where I would turn my PC off for the night, and then in the morning, the lights on my case would be flashing. This would be happening BEFORE I've actually switched it on, but don't start straight away when I leave it off for the night, so I don't notice until the morning. The flashes would be similar to the blue light seen on the bottom of a burglar alarm; that sort of pace: a very quick blink, then a longer time when the lights are off, then a quick blink again, off, blink, off...

The way I fix this problem until next time is to remove one stick, use the computer for a short while, then put the other stick back in.

This problem hasn't really bothered me that much, but two things are: 1. It shouldn't happen; 2. It only seems to happen at really crucial moments when I need teh machine to start as soon as I press the power button.

So how can I stop this happening permanently, preferably without replacing the RAM?
