I would save £5 and change PSU to

http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Power+Supplies/PC+Power+%26+Cooling+SILENCER+750+Quad+%28Red%29+? productId=27967

are you using this for gaming?

I would keep the motherboard onboard sound which is very high end and more than adequate.(presuming you get a half decent board) with the sound card £££ saving upgrade graphics slightly.

Kingston 4gb 1066 memory is at a cracking price at the moment, good buy now over the 800 memory.

A forum favourite and my own motherboard

Why are you looking at getting the 4670?

they are a poor performing card with only 128 bit memory bus.

I would go for a single 4850 for the same sort of money as 2 4650s

1Gb of ram on a low end graphics card is just to fool people into buying a more expensive card.

well spotted wonderlust! I concur, NEVER SLI or Crossfire two cheaps cards to try and cheat your way to a good gfx setup. Simply buy a single decent card in the first place :)

This will suffice

Which opertaing system are you running?

I7 and DDr3 are very hard to justify on a cost versus performance increase basis

i7>c2d

tbh it depends alot on what you use your pc for, if your heavy into video encoding or rendering alot of high res images then the ht on the the i7 cpu will run rings around the core2. if on the other hand your mostly gaming (gpu choice leads me to belive this) then a fast core2 will be plenty and the extra cash would be better spent on graphics power.

If your running XP, installing 12gb memory would be ludicrous :thumbsdn: don't go higher than 2gb if on XP.

ok so wot about Vista 64bit then ?

Lynx
27-01-09, 21:40
Any amount of ram is good on Vista 64bit, 4GB is the sweet spot atm. 6GB on i7 systems.

Aaron
27-01-09, 22:06
Well, technically... ;)

Windows Version / Limit on 32Bit Software / Limit on 64Bit Software

Windows Vista Ultimate / 4 GB / 128 GB
Windows Vista Enterprise / 4 GB / 128 GB
Windows Vista Business / 4 GB / 128 GB
Windows Vista Home Premium / 4 GB / 16 GB
Windows Vista Home Basic / 4 GB / 8 GB
Windows Vista Starter / 1 GB / Not applicable

But yeah, pretty much unlimited for todays needs. If you're running Home Basic, you wont be doing anything that you need more than 8Gb Ram for

The other limits of 16Gb and 128Gb arent needed for 99.9% of todays PCs.. Although thats not to say we won't in the future.. ;)

Red is lighter than black. Costs less to ship.. ;)

Biodoid
28-01-09, 21:42
but but but lol it still has the black below the red therefore making it heavier than the black on it's own :P

mac124
28-01-09, 22:15
ah yes but you can't see the black ergo its lighter :D

Audigex

Doesn't black absorb more light than red? Red absorbs all light but red, black absorbs it all INCLUDING red. Therefore the black will contain more light, and will be heavier.

Thinking about it, that doesn't make sense. Maybe because it absorbs more light, that makes it lighter.... and that brings us back to why it's cheaper. It weighs less because it absorbs lightness, making it cheaper to handle and ship. Also it's easier to store - you just let it float to the roof of the warehouse (with a string attached, of course).

Okay, that's definately the scientific reason.
You're welcome.

Go modular

Don't go modular, the ohm's arn't as stable. Pc power and cooling are a huge enthusiast brand and make NONE modular for a reason

How about due to supply and demand the black isn't as popular hence less produced hence more cost per unit. Economies of scale and all that :lol:

/5*6 (I wanted to be slightly different)

Definately go with 64-bit vista. 64-bit windows 7 will be pretty much the only way to go; but for now Vista64>XP64 by a long way.

If it runs on XP it'll virtually always run on vista.

Just right click the exe, properties: then run it in compatability mode for XP.

I've yet to hit a program that won't run natively under vista or one of the compatability profiles, and I play Transport Tycoon Deluxe, Tides of War and Port Royale ;-)

I agree, going from XP > Vista was far easier than the 98 > XP switch. I even found games that wouldn't run in XP decided to run in Vista.
