i recently bought a bunch of parts to have a go at making my own pc but i hit a problem and i cant seem to figure out the right connections from the front panel to the motherboard for the LED's and power/reset buttons.

i was advised to get this case (https://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Cases/MIDI+Tower/Akasa+Zen+Silent-Cool+-+Black?productId=25262)
for this mobo (https://www.aria.co.uk/Products?search=MB7-P5KPL-AM)
by a firend of mine who builds pc's.

i find this hard to explain but..
the cases front panel connectors and the mobo's booklet for conneting them doesnt match up at all.
the mobo has 4 pins on the top row and 5 on the bottom for the connections.
in the booklet it seems like it should go like this..
PWR LED uses the first 2 pins on the top left, PWR BTN uses the last 2 pins on the top row, HD LED uses the 2 pins on the bottom left, RESET uses the next 2 pins on the bottom row and then theres 1 pin left.

but the problem is this cases PWR LED has 3 holes for pins, the middle of the 3 not being connected to a wire.

any help or suggestions?

apart from that i also cant seem to get it to turn on so i guess the PSU might be faulty too...

hello and welcome to the forum.

This has become an issue in recent times.

Just use a jewellers screwdriver or something similar to lift the little plastic tab on the three way connector and move the pin into the middle. you may have to do this twice if you get the polarity wrong first time (it won't do any damage if you do)

The alterantive is to carefully cut the plug into to but i prefer moving the pin its eaiser and safer

yeah, i tend to cut it in half and shave the excess off.
There are a lot of mobos that do actually have a 2 and a 3 pin sockets on the board to cater for 2 or 3 pin case connectors....sadly youres doesn't.

Be careful with them fingers :D

Newer Asus boards give you a easy clip block, winning idea

I simply took some snips to my 3 pin header to make it a 2 pin, worked a treat

Now that is a good idea!

Quick connectors 4tw! On my Antec 900 and the 1200, power pins were separate

One day someone might invent a front panel connector standard. They could call it FPH v2.0

(front panel header v2.0) it would be a standard format on motherboards and cases and simply be one connection for all the front panel.

I don't think anyone would like that because it would increase costs. I reckon case builders should just have them all separate but clearly labelled, same goes for the mobo.

Wouldnt that be a little awkward cos some cases have extra cables for LED's and things?
