View Full Version : 2nd hand raptor
I got a 36gb wd raptor from a mate of mine, he was going to bin it anyway.
I was wondering what you think would be the best thing to do with it.
I was thinking either install vista on it, or keep it for games. But I'm not sure which.
Wouldnt put any critcal data on it just incase it dies... I'd probably install vista on it
why was he going to bin it?
install XP on it and use if as a dual boot HDD for all your games :)

Lol Hope he secure wiped it first :D
It's too small for him.
Would installing games on it make a big difference to fps? Only one way to find out I suppose but I thought I'd ask anyway.
usually in games where your waiting on the HDD, between loading levels etc it will make a difference. Once ingame the fps is determined mostly by decent graphics card though.

are you suggesting his friend has a large pr0n library on there? :chairfall:

iirc the Samsung F1 drives are as quick with more space and a lot less noise thought

It's too small for his pr0n collection
fixed :)
had one of those drives too noisy so got rid :(

7200 spin vs 10,000
the raptor is definetely quicker. In terms of noise they are quiet as fresh air
Howcome when they compare hard drive write and read times the F1 comes out on top?

The data is packed more densely on the F1 so it gains that way
Its also uses perpendicular recodrding which the old raptors don't

Oh yes, there was a jump in performance with the change to perpendicular recording :D
