Expect a few experimental pics over the next few weeks for you to comment on.
manual zoom ring?
how much?
Yep manual zoom, though its not much, will get a "proper" zoom lens soon. It cost me £315.
Well done... welcome to the club! You can get a 100-300mm lens for around 100 if you know where to look ;)

Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS
Good plan, what you going to be shooting mainly?
Elephants, lions, hippos, zebras etc you know the usual stuff :D
Planning on going on safari?
Yup this time next year, so hopefully i might have sussed out how to use it by then, and got all the extra odds and ends like extra batteries, another lens, filters etc rucksack to put it all in.
This is going to get expensive isn't it??
Oh really - where you going?
my bro is currently in kenya @ serengerti national park for 3 weeks, he bought a pentax SLR before he left, got a text last night its 35 degrees at the moment :|
I'm going out to Africa for 3 weeks in July/August too.. Can't wait :D
35 degrees?! Hmm.. I like warm, but not that hot!
Going to do a 4 day safari around Kilimanjaro (sp?) then 10 days on a beach. Don't think i could handle a 3 week safari non stop, as much as i would love to. This time of year is the best time to go, less rain ;)
he's going to either chester zoo or knowsley
Or maybe putting on the Nature Channel (if that exists) and taking some real closeup photos of the tv... ;)
lol yeah right i'd buy a £300 camera to goto the zoo
Soooo... Where are you going?! :D
Going to do a 4 day safari around Kilimanjaro (sp?) then 10 days on a beach.

Random - that post wasnt there when I posted the thing about the TV.. Ah well..
Thats cool - I'm quite excited about my time over there. Its one thing to see animals in a Zoo, but completely amazing to see them in the wild..
Hehe no worries, i agree about seeing them in the wild its going to be fantastic, a long time to wait though. Still it will give me time to save and get the stuff for my camera, amoungst other things. Bloody injections and stuff will cost near on £100 apparently.
Yeah, the injections are something I am looking into at the moment too. But I think i've actually had most of them before..!
Same here, when i went Egypt, only need yellow fever and malaria (which are tablets anyway) but each is £50ish.
Yeah.. I'm not looking forward to the possibile malaria tablet side effects tho...
In July im going on holiday, amsterdam for 3 days, brussels for the night, dour for 4 days for the dour festival and then paris
Should be good fun
