View Full Version : Gaming Keyboard and Mouse - again!
I know there are loads of them about, but hopefully I don't need that much help.
1) Is the Razer Deathadder (I'd get the left handed version) any good? I don't want millions of buttons, just an extra two for my thumb would be great (Knife and Medpack on BF3) It's £50 which seems reasonable.
2) Stupid question - but what does Gaming Keyboard actually do? I'm confused on how a £60 keyboard could be justified! If it's the world of difference, then what would you recommend for about £40 ish.
3) Best Gaming Mouse mat please? Don't want to spend silly money :)
i use a razer destructor mouse mat its lovely not sure on price though had it a couple of years.
Usually gaming keyboards have lights on them and some give you the ability to press more keys at once. a budget keyboard might only accept 3 or 5 keystrokes at once the better the keyboard the more it will do usually.
While the deathadder is not my cup of tea it is a perfectly good keyboard.
the microsoft sidewinder x4 is supposed to be pretty good and is £33 with free del from aria, https://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Peripherals/Keyboards/Gaming+Keyboards/Microsoft+SideWinder+X4+Keyboard+-+USB+UK+Layout+%5BJQD-00006%5D?productId=40170
mostly with a keyboard its down to what you like the look of, i have a logitech G19 simply becasue when it first came out i went wow i want that but not paying £150 and then recently picked one up for £90 new direct from logitech. it was my dream keyboard and i'll keep it til the keys fall off, My last keyboard a G510 which is sitting on the floor in its box now was very similar but i didnt like it as the keys felt a little soft for me no real feedback to the presses
Can't help you on the gaming mouse front as i use a cheap wireless mouse bought from amazon though it does have a couple of thumb buttons and i can't fault it.
As for a keyboard, gaming ones usually just have a few unassigned buttons on for you and are occasionally backlit and some have a screen that can show info such as computer stats etc. Personally i have a £4 tesco value keyboard and it has to be the best keyboard i have ever owned, simple, cheap and the keys just have that nice solid feel but aren't hard to push down, and if you don't like it, well you haven't spent much so what does it matter, you may as well keep it as a back up just incase.
It's all personal preference really; whether you want your mouse light/heavy, how you hold your mouse, etc.
I use a Rokkat Kova+. Lovely mouse, incredibly light, has multi-coloured LED's (you can program them though :) ) and is ambidextrous. I would say it needs a little bit more grip on te mouse wheel but I haven't experienced any actual problems :)
For the mouse mat, I bought a Roccat Sota mouse mat. Was expensive at £20, but the Kova glide SOOO smoothly on it.
For a keyboard I use a razed arctosa. Nice simple keyboard, although I'm not sure I'm a great fan of the keys. They don't quite have enough, ridge about them. They're very flat and streamlined. Again, that's personal preference though. :)

Nothing comes close to Razer mice imo. I've owned Saitek, Logitech and some Steelseries piece of garbage but I always go back to my 2 Diamondback's. Completely adjustable on-screen on-the-fly sensitivity, perfectly formed, understated looks (compared to some of the monstrosities Saitek are churning out now) and performance that has been, in every type of game I play, faultless. Reliability is superb as well, one of my DB's is an original non-3G version that is over 4 years old and still functions fine.
As for keyboards I do like this new G110 I got... minus the large bank of macro keys on the left hand side (who uses macro's nowadays anyways? Really?) but the Original Saitek Eclipse is the best gaming keyboard i've ever used (and the V2 looked even better). No gimmicks, no stupid high price, just a keyboard that worked exactly how you want it.
im selling my G11 and getting a Microsoft Ergo 4000 for home. Love it so much at work theres no going back! loads of fancy buttons to reprogram to for chucking the granny etc
deathadder mouse FTW!!!
I use cheapo mice as am a poor guy. But I got a Saitek Cyborg keyboard which is very good, got it for tenner of mate (suppose to be 30/40 odd) It's smooth and nice to use. Only downside is the key/numbers etc have started to fade away recently.
Razer Lachesis is brilliant!!!
I also have a Black Widow and I LOVE it and is the best keyboard I've ever owned! However I cant justify because its the only gaming keyboard I've ever owned.
I bought a Logitech G15 about 5 years ago when I had slightly more money than sense. However, I still really like it, it's lasted this long and still going strong :thumb:

Just seen one of those for £49 brand new. Could be tempted although my trusty Reclusa and MX518 have never missed a beat.
Guys I honestly appreciate all the great feedback! Some great options to go for there. I do prefer when things get the majority vote but at least I have a list and can read some more reviews now. As for the mouse - I have settled for the Left Handed Deathadder (getting on my Birthday)
Final thing, and a simple one (before my GF buys it for me) What is more important - gaming mouse or gaming keyboard?
What is more important - gaming mouse or gaming keyboard?
This is a personal thing really. But for me keyboard is more important. I've had expensive mice years ago only to break them in no time, so I've just used cheapo mouses for eyars (Plus they good on my low budget) and still do very good at FPS.
But a cheap keyboard with nasty keys for me personally is the most annoying thing, not only is it annoying for gaming but they can be very hard work if your a fast typer and type lots.
trust me get the cyborg rat 5 mouse and cyborg v.5 keyboard. both are amazing. never used expensice k/b or mouse before but f*** me what a dif it makes
mouse everytime, i can game on any old keyb and use the wsad. The mouse makes 99% of the difference.
A nice keyboard is a simple luxury on top

I've got the standard Death Adder, brilliant mouse, can't fault it.
I'm also loving my Razer Black Widow, well, if the F1 key hadn't broken after a few weeks - still need to send it back.
I guess it's personal preference.
I always found budget keyboard to be an issue in FPS games as they can only transmit a certain amount of key presses.
But then again, a good mouse can make all the difference in the world.
Mechanical keyboard - You'll never go back.
Oooh the keyboard one is a toughy!!
Loving the recommendations, the Logitech ones look great, I want to love the Razer Black Widow but the keys look very, ummm, tall!
Someone just say - but that one - please! :D
If the G15 can be got for under 30 thats what i would personally get!
Thank you. This just reminds me why I hate review sites :D
The Saitek Cyborg V7 is getting good reviews and only £60. The Blackwidow is getting bad reviews. Oh Nick, just ignore reviews :)
Gaming keyboards come in a variety of shapes and sizes... For around £40 I'd recommend the Razer Arctosa (get the silver version if you can't touch type - I've got the black version, black letters on black keys lol). Gaming keyboards tend to have a feature called anti-ghosting technology, allowing you to press more keys around the gaming cluster (standard keyboards can't register more than 3 keys being pressed at any one time).
With gaming mice, the best thing to do is get your hands on one before you buy to make sure that it's comfortable for you (go into PC world or somewhere, get a feel for it and laugh at their lucicrously inflated prices before going home and buying it from aria!) :p
As you're a left hooker then you're going to want either a lefty mouse (such as the deathadder lefty edition you mentioned), or an ambidextrous designed one (such as the Steelseries Xai).
Thank you. This just reminds me why I hate review sites :D

As said my Cyborg is great and some else recommends one on this thread, but in the end all comes down to which looks more appealing to you. (I have a V5 btw doubt the digits would fade away on a v7)
Any major difference between the Razer BlackWidow and the Razer BlackWidow Ultimate?
Also there is a Razer Lycosa (sp?) is this mechanical? I believe from what you've said is that mechanical is better :)
I'd pickup a SteelSeries 6gv2, 7g or Ttesports Meka G1

BW is the same as BWU only the latter has backlit keys and a built in USB hub as well as mic + headphone jacks.
Lycosa is not mechanical.

+1 this :D
Had a go on the BW today in PC World and boy it's clicks and loud. Are all mechanical keyboards like that?

It's a loud keyboard, I like it ;)
Although, my friends on Mumble are least appreciative of it.
It's Cherry MX Blues which do make that loud clicking sound.
You could always find a set of MX Browns which are similar but without that extra 'click' - although some prefer them, others dislike them and find them a bit 'meh'.
The other option is MX Blacks which have no click, bump or anything. It's a linear press from top to bottom.
The blues are a bit of a pain when everyone is trying to sleep and you're doing coursework, all everyone else can hear is this horrible 'click click click' from next door ;)
Hahaha! That's all I'm thinking of, when she's in bed or reading a book and I'm posting on this forum. Ok, question - I don't want much noise and MX Blacks sound great, so which keyboards use MX Blacks?

Just ordered my christmas present from the wife got a TT Esports Meka keyboard and TT Esports Black Element Mouse,
I didnt go for the Meka G1 as I couldnt justify the extra £30 for a backlight, plastic wrist rest and phono input. But the standard Meka comes with two usb inputs and Cherry Black switches that are non clicky so no noise and non resistive they are also the same switches that are used in steelseries 6g and 7g boards plus its the cheapest mechanical keyboard I could find.
Was going to get the cyborg rat 7 mouse but also couldnt jusity the price and I wanted multiple thumb and pinky finger buttons so went with the black element

Good choice. I have the cyborg R.A.T 7 mouse and V7 keyboard and although there great I always feel bad when I think i spend £130 on a keyboard and mouse. I guess its a personal thing?
im still toying over which keyboard + mouse to get
thinking of the Logitech g500, Had the old g5 and was best mouse i had owned, so worth a punt
and probably the Microsoft Sidewinder X4, as so many people say the keys on the G110 are so small, and i pref standard size keys!
1. If you are left handed then the Deathadder left handed version would be ideal.
2. Sidewinder X4 keyboard is only £35 and perfect for gaming
3. I have a boogie bug.XL mouse mat. It's basically a desk mat that you can put your keyboard on also. I also have a SS QcK which is also a very good mouse mat

I'm interested to know what you think of your keyboard when you get it and how noisy the keys are. I might be tempted to get one and get shot of this logitech thing.
Been using a Deathadder for a while now, great mouse & I would buy another if it ever died.
I have a G11 & I never really have got on with it that well, it's decent enough but a bit clunky for my liking. My fave so far has been my old Saitec Eclipse. I might try a G15 as they are better priced just now.
Mouse matt wise I really can't see past my now ancient Func 1030 surface, I must have had this thing for 7-8 years & it is simply brilliant with the deathadder. If I was to buy another it would probably be the boogie Bug thing that is the size of a desk top lol.
