After its finished being written to? There's often an option in your burning software.

Or after its stopped playing a movie? No idea, but you might be able to set it to switch off when idle, that might work.

after playing a dvd... I'm thinking of using spares to build a media centre for the bedroom as the dvd player as we have started misbehaving, and the tv we use is a monitor with built-in tuner.

Let me rephrase that before I start de-modding people...

I am thinking of building a media centre PC out of spares for upstairs as the current dvd player is breaking down.

:P

Is it possible to get my pc to turn off after a DVD has finished?

go into hibernation settings and set it so when its idle'd for more than 10 minutes for example - it powers down !

Will have to try it out...

I'm not entirely sure if a computer is able to recognise when a DVD is "finished" as such, because most DVDs will be set up to just go back to the looping menu screen when the film is over, which is still part of the DVD content.

Yeah.. Also, I think PCs sees 'not idling' as no input from a user.. So unless you're typing or moving the mouse throughout a dvd, it would probably hibernate during the DVD.. Although there might be a setting to change that?

Why not just get a media centre remote and switch off the PC using that at the end of the dvd? I'm sure you can stop misbehaving for long enough to do that.. ;)

Or just get a remote control for it ;)

I wasnt quite sure if it would work...

I was asking because I usually fall asleep before the film finishes

coiler

Well stick hibernate on 30 mins! so by the time it kicks in your asleep anyway :)

Couldn't you set up a batch file to shut the computer down after 2 hours or something.

"SmartSleep is new and free to try utility for shutting down computer at specified time, with powerful task scheduler and unique functions. You may display black screen during countdown so you save life of your monitor. Another excellent feature is slowly decrease of sound volume, so if you are listening to music before falling asleep, you will love this! SmartSleep can do way more than that...
