The case only cost me £2 from a computer show it was in the usual boring beige.
Unfortunately it looked like it had been dismantled with a pry bar & sledge hammer
so I had to do a bit of metalwork to tidy it up. Then I sprayed it metallic purple,
it doesn't show it very well in the picture(looks a lot better in real life!). I was going to
use a side window but decided to get rid of the side and use a piece of Perspex,
drilled and taped some holes for thumb screws to hold it on.

It still needs some tidying up but it's getting there(slowly).

My eyeS!!!!!!!

Nice spray. I tried spraying a case a while ago, I couldn't afford any primer or enough paint to finish it though :D

I also didn't bother with base coat n primmer and it seems to have keyed ok,
If it had been a car(or ark) I would then.
It has 4 12\" purple cold cathodes in
the bottom and 2 4\" red cold cathodes in the top + various LED fans

Yes I could convert it into an ark but it would probably just rust
and sink or sink then rust, take your pick!

Wayne.

[quote:804077eabd=\"PrivatePyle@Work\"]What are the specs for HMS Purple mate?[/quote:804077eabd]

It's nothing to wet your pants over. Abit KT7A raid, 1.4gig Thunderbird, 512meg mem, 2x 80gig hdd's, AGP Radeon8500.
The only thing I am going to add is a new hard drive apart from that it's all I need at the moment.
The day it cant do what I want is the day I upgrade but for now I'm getting my moneys worth.
It's also got an ISA slot that took my modem but now I'm on broadband it's only used for testing ISA cards(rarely).

Cheers

I'd love to get an old television like that, gut it, and mount a LCD television in the box :)

Yes it weighs a bit, it's no portable machine that's for sure.
I will spray the other drives when I get round to it(I like to take my time).
I still have an old 8bit ISA graphics card with 256KB of memory. Out of interest I shall give it a try some time.

Off topic bit:-
The Sanyo TV is from 1984. As I'm a self employed electrician I was wiring up a shower at an old ladies house
about 6 years ago and it was in the garage, she asked me if I could get rid of it, not a problem I replied.
When I got it home I powered it up to find the switch mode failing to start up, it just kept tripping. A few checks
with multimeter showed something excessively loading the output of the power supply and it was tripping out to protect
itself. The loading was being created by a short circuit line output transistor, there were also a couple of electrolytic capacitors
in the area that had gone high ESR. So it cost me about £1.50 to repair. When I powered up and gave it signal the picture was
quite blurred so with a slight twiddle of the focus control I was able to get a good sharp picture. It's now sat in my living room
ever since being reliable with great picture. There's no radiation problem with it as the EHT voltage is within the tube's specified
limits, the screen glass is impregnated with lead and I don't sit to close to it.(The one used in the Simpson's was an older model  )
I've just discovered how difficult it is to take pictures of CRT screens, these pictures don't do it justice as there more vibrant in real
life.

I just don't buy into the philosophy that if something's old then it's no good. you should see my radio from 1936 and still in daily use!

If your still there reading my ramblings I'll get back on topic. :D

\"What's the PC Background you have on the monitor???\"
It's a picture of an attractive woman looking in a mirror, bit arty farty(hell I'm a red blooded male what do you expect).

Well I think the television is brilliant! :)

It certainly beats what I did have a 12\" black and white portable from the 70's :)

I've never done work in a brothel yet but a couple of years ago I did have to fit a socket in a BDSM dungeon, it was a black room
with whips n chains hanging on the walls, very bizarre. Not really my cup of tea but each to there own I suppose.

Getting back to my purple people eater I have just seen a case with caster wheels, as mine is so heavy it would be very useful having
wheels. I shall post a pic when done.

Cheers,
Wayne.

\"I think your case could do with some tyres dude. Its massive.\"
Don't tempt me.

\"And an en suite... \"
I'm just pricing up a Sani flow macerator

I was just thinking, is there a world record for number of cold cathodes in one system?
I could fit more for sure.

Also I want to drop another hard drive in it, dose anybody know the maximum drive capacity
for an Abit KT7a raid mobo? I imagine a 400gig would be out of the question but I cant see it having
a problem with a 200gig judging by it's age.

Cheers,
Wayne.

Unfortunately the cat has taken to using the chair as a scratching post, :( theirs all bits of foam on the floor and its started to look really tatty.
Its a shame as it's a comfy chair.

the purple machine is still alive with a few changes, more memory added, video capture card added and made dual bios.

Its only used for video capture or testing hardware these days as I'm using various other machines I've cobbled together.
The old telly is also alive and well.

This thread is brilliant! I love the case and that TV is probably fashionably retro these days.

Nice one.

Update: The old retro TV has died, the line output transformer took a turn for the worst and I'm having trouble finding a suitable replacement so I'm gutted :(

The PC is still going strong, I got a SATA controller card for it and dropped a 500gig drive
in it.
