Just bought it the other day. Waiting for delivery.

The spec's aren't the hottest ever, but a 600Mhz cpu with 128MB ram will run Windows 2000 ok, and the thing is REALLY tiny and light! 248mm x 27mm x 152 mm and only 1 kg! I wanna upgrade the ram as high as it'll go, I think it'll only support 192Mb though, I'll try anyway. And I need to buy a new battery for it as well :P

It'll be perfect for browsing the internet once I buy a new Linksys wireless PCMCIA card for it, and listening to the odd mp3. 600Mhz *should* be enough for smooth video playback as well, fingers crossed!

Wow, with something that small the ladies must just point and laugh

Not to be cheeky, but how much did you pay for it? eBay job?

Looks really cool, how much did it cost?

Barley

*Coughs* £270 *Coughs*

I know it's a lot for a low spec laptop, but it's not about the speed, it's about having a sweet looking laptop that's totally quiet and light :)

Nice buy, for videos that should be brilliant, a nice widescreen to watch them on. What resolution is the screen?

Barley

1024*480 I believe :)

You coulda picked up a 2nd hand Mac for that :D

Looks pretty schweet mate, shame the screen only takes up the little square.

Or once you install the video drivers does it take up the whole screen?

Barley

It takes up the whole screen once the correct drivers are installed :) Windows 2000 was a no go though, couldn't get enough drivers to get everything working. so I used the recovery CD's and put ME back on again.

Now I just need to get more memory for it, 128Mb isn't enough :)

Awww man Windows ME sucks really bad.

If you do decide to try Windows 2000 again try these drivers.

:D

Your making me want one now! :P

The problem is the drivers I got from the Sony website for the C1VE I bought don't appear to 100% work in Windows 2000.

The memory stick drivers Windows won't recognise, and the graphics drivers won't stop the display showing in a tiny window in the middle of the screen.

I just dont like seeing people have to suffer with Windows ME.

Thanks for caring :) It's a struggle, but I try to manage.

ME is manageable. The problem I have at the moment is memory shortage. The system has 128MB but it's reserving 16MB for CMS or something. So I only have 112MB left. The system can handle a 64MB upgrade, but I can't find any compatible 64MB memory sticks anywhere.

Im guessing you have tried the Bay?

What type of memory are you after?

Also can't you flash the bios of the laptop to support more memory?

:D

I'd rather leave the BIOS alone, laptops are a little weird :)

There is one REALLY weird memory slot, the ram module looks like it'd be no bigger than an inch and a half squared! I tried the Bay, but couldn't find anything :(

The memory looks like this

It's the PCG-C1VE laptop, although underneath the laptop says PCG-141C. Has a single memory slot, so it's a single 64MB module I'm after, not a matching pair.

As for the spelling,

Well, the 600MHz processor will JUST about handle divx files! And I mean just, it has to be the only application running, and jerks a bit in places, but it's watchable :)
