View Full Version : What replacement graphics card?
I currently have a very sick GeForce FX5500 which I believe is a 1.5v AGP card but as a technical biff haven't been able to work out what this means.
I can't find an exact replace so can someone advise a good replacement option.
Doesn't need to be a mega gaming option but does need to be the best on a tight budget
Thanks
Don't know your exact budget, or system spec, or what your using it for, but if you want it to be a bit of an upgrade at the same time then get an HD3650 (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Graphics+Cards/AGP/ATI+Radeon+3000+Series/PowerColor+HD3650+512M+DDR2+AGP+?productId=34363)
Alternatively here (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Graphics+Cards/AGP/?x=12&p_order=price_asc&p=cF9zdHlsZT1saXN0JnBfcHJvZHVjdHNQZXJQYWdlPSY=)is the list of Aria's AGP cards, you cant go wrong with any of those except the 5200 which is a downgrade.
AGP is old technology so if you want to bring your PC up to date past this then you will need a new motherboard.

What PSU are you running?
What PSU are you running?
Answer this question before buying :p An HD3650 might kill your existing PSU.
How do I tell? I have replaced my PSU once but can't remember what I put in
Hope someone can help again.
How can you tell what voltage a card is. I need 1.5v but none of the specs seem to note this detail?
Will this spec do the job?
Model number: SP8855-DT
Graphics Processing: NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500
Core Clock:270 MHz
Memory Type: 256MB
Memory Interface: 128-Bit
Bus Type: AGP 3.0 8x/4x, AGP 2.0 4x/2x
RAMDAC: 350 MHz

from my experience all Nvidia cards from a Geforce 2 run at 1.5v.
If you check out this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accelerated_Graphics_Port
it shows the key ways for the different voltages.
In most cases you shouldnt be able to fit a 3.3v card ina 1.5v agp slot
