I need a version of linux that supports the following for my HTPC build (thread for hardware (http://forums.aria.co.uk/showthread.php/84603-New-HTPC?p=1543233)):

BluRay disc playback
FreeSat card
Recording from the FreeSat card to a HDD
Sharing the HDD with windows pc's over a network
Sending video and audio over HDMI
Fast boot

It'd be good if it could "rip" dvd's and blurays, but I guess that's not going to happen :(

Maybe send Lorem Ipsum a PM as he is a bit of a linux guru.

I might if something good doesn't pop up here.

Bluray playback is still a bit of an issue in Linux iirc but there are plenty of Linux distros for media centers.

I would download any from the list here that seem appealing and try them out. www.makeuseof.com/tag/5-great-linux-media-cente-distributions-transform-tv/

This may explain the current state of bluray usability in Linux : https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats/BluRayAndHDDVD

I can play Blu-Ray on all of my Linux PCs (inc HTPCs).
In fact, I wasn't even aware there was an issue with Blu-Ray in Linux until now.

Can't read the above links just yet (have to run fr the train), but I will later and post back :)

It's not all blurays that cause issues by any means but any with wierder encryption cause problems.
