Hi i am looking at upgradeing my computer to try and stop some of the lag in warhammer. i currently have a q6600 8gb of ram and a 8800GTX. The first thing i was looking at is a new graphics card. After having a look around i picked the GTX 260 maxcore. Can anyone tell me if it will make a difference and if the XFX GTX 260 maxcore at aria is for the most part the same as BFG GTX-260 OCX MaxCore Core 216,

Thanks for your help

What graphics settings are you running, i really cannot see how you are lagging. Install Fraps, and tell us what fps you get when you play warhammer. Also, can you list your full specs including os.

only happens in the fort seiges. It was suggested that the cpu isnt good enough personally i think its the client and not the computer.
my full system is
Q6600 @ 2.6ghz (Q6600@2.6ghz)
asus p5n32-e sli
8800 GTX
win vista x64
thermal take Armour case with w/c
I have the settings at max running at 1920x1080 the settings seem to make no difference even on low it lags.

Install FRAPS...so we can tell if its hardware or internet :D cause a Q6600 + 8800GTX + 8GB RAM = NICE PC :P

have you overclocked your cpu at all? That could show you if its a cpu limitation or a game limitation. You shouldnt have any trouble with the game, the 8GB of ram is overkill unless your doing video editing, I would run a virus scan and maybe do a clean install, if you have a lot of programs running, you could have a system slowing down.

Shedlife

still FRAPS is best bet, cause if ur at like 25+ FPS and there is lag, then its your internet not computer.

If its less do what lynx said :D

I think that anything below 60fps is going to be jerky, unless you have crysis or a game with good motion blur.

60fps is a bit high, even tv is only 25fps, the golden number is usually quoted as 30fps for games.

Lynx

I dont know, i mean i can see the difference between anything upto 40 fps, generally i see 60 as the golder number.

You do notice the difference between games playing at 30fps and games playing at 60fps, mainly because its not a flat image like it is on a tv

If you play a game where you can see a long way into the distance at 30fps then play the same game at 60fps you will notice the difference in the distance, at 30fps it may appear jerky when turning where as at 60fps it will seem smoother

If you get my meaning

What your getting at with your first line is unclear, let me rephrase.

A Video camera records images of moving objects, GPUs render a still frame, a flick book still looks like a flick book unless you flick it very fast. A video camera recording still looks like a video camera recording, even if slowed down a little, if you catch my drift.

had a chance to do another fort seige got about 15fps a second my cpu maxed out about 66% and core one was at about 80%. I had about a 3+ second lag delay. most people where saying they had lag some said they didn't. my net is connected at just short of 8mb and my nephew has a similar spec pc with a 12mb connection and we both had problems.

60 probably does seem a bit smoother but generally speaking 30fps is deemed "acceptable" when playing games, even reviews seem to think this too.

For the record i prefer 60+ too (you only have to read my sig to know that ;) ) im just saying 30 is "ok"

coiler
06-01-09, 11:22
30 is ok, but you'll find in intense firefights/action this can easily drop to 15/20 where you can notice bad slideshow action!

60 is good as it offers a buffer so when a lot of graphical strain occurs the drop won't fall below 40/50 and remains smooth as butter.

Also microlag and mouse stutter is a LOT more apparant at 30.

You need to turn down your graphics settings i reckon, 15fps is way too low.

Shedlife

I think this perfect FPS is more a personal view? and depends on what games people are playing. For me its about 25FPS+ minimum is good. I mean EVERYBODY :P always likes more, but the more tight****ed of use can run 25FPS in the knowing that we've saved some money ;)

Edit: wtf its **** out the word **** >_<

Edit: OMG OMG the stars are mean to be the word (f i s t)

I dont play anything below 40 fps, mainly because i cannot stand lag, and far cry 2 is lagging currently, i cannot understand why.

Us gtx 260 owners never get less than 60! :P

So you think the xfx gtx 260 maxcore will help. I get 60+ fps everywhere else with the same settings expect the fortress attacks still makes me wonder if it server side lag and that causing it and not at my end. Even with the settings on minimum i get lag only at the fortress attacks.

coiler

sounds like lag to me! anyway you can press TAB to get the game scores when the slowdown occurs to see what happens to everyones PING at the time?

mac124
06-01-09, 19:15
Try a different server? If it lags its your system, possibly.

Whats you ping / choke like? (remembering back when i played css)

To make sure you didn't suffer choke / loss you need to make sure your pc is set up to match the server.

hoyage
06-01-09, 19:22
its a mmo so kinda difficult to test another server and can get everyone elses ping. They also decided not to add your ping in either which kinda sucks

Shedlife

I still don't know the guys FPS :( is it 15FPS (so its just juddery) or does it full on "lock up" for a second or two (which would make it lag?)

"Us gtx 260 owners never get less than 60!" I think crysis would have sumit to say about that :P...and assassins creed :)

it drops from 60+ fps to around 15fps and i get about a 3 second delay when i try to cast a spell same for chat i can type something in and hit enter takes about 3 seconds to appear in the chat window.

Are you using Fraps? and that shows this 60 to 15 drop? sounds like a bottleneck in your system somewhere which indeed could be caused by the gfx card, maxing out on memory or gpu core.

Shedlife

This thread is silly  I can't tell if this persons using fraps or when its at 60 FPSand what he does to make to go down to 15FPS!

hoyage
07-01-09, 17:55
ok i break it down i play warhammer online i get standard 60+ fps every where in the game excpet the fortress attacks. i am not using fraps i am using a FPS addon. When i go to a fortress attack my fps drops to between 5 and 15 fps. I have bought a BFG gtx260 OCX to see if it helps.

Shedlife

OMFG you've just randomly bought sumit that costs £150+ :chairfall:

Well i don't play warhammer, but i'm guessing a fortress attack is when there is alot of action?

You had a 8800GTX? That should of nailed it first time round, i'll be interested to see the results of the GTX260!

hoyage

Didn't make a lot of difference get more FPS everywhere else but still getting between 5-15 FPS in fort attacks. Don't mind spending the money was looking at upgrading anyway plus it a very nice card that will run everything i throw at it for a 12 months or so.

mac124
08-01-09, 07:19
Definately sounds like server to me, can you talk to other people in the server and see what their getting fps wise in the attacks?

I think it was a waste of money...8800GTX I am 97% sure should of nailed it (as I said before) again as mac123 said, and as I've said the whole way through its probably the server.

But I guess its too late now you've actually bought the card :P the 8800GTX should of handled everything for the next 12 months :)

Fallout 3 with full graphics and full AA and AF = 8800gtx falls over!

gtx 260 = no problem sir! can you load the game twice so I can have something to do!

I was considering upgradeing anyway and the 8800GTX isnt wasted i have put it my second pc so no lose there. According to reviews i read the 260 OCX is suppose to get above 30 fps in crysis with everything at max expect AA something i have on my list of things to try out :)

Why do people not go on about the GTX280 cause its better?

jonwoad

But its more expensive

It was like the 8800GT vs 8800GTX. GTX was better but sooooo much more expensive that a GT was the sensible choice.

an overclocked gtx 260 216 core can compete with a 280 with a £100-£200 saving

shed you know you want one!
