While I'm waiting for Customer Services to get back to me - wondered if the collective knowledge of the forums might be able to suggest something.

My shiney new computer arrived this morning :). Unpacking it and plugging it in to my monitor, keyboard and mouse, I began the completion of the windows xp installation (the oobe thing). Unfortunately, it didn't recognise my keyboard (I hadn't pushed it in all the way), and it didn't pick up on this when I did. With nothing else to do as I couldn't enter the windows serial key, I restarted the machine. I've done this at work when using USB mice which weren't recognised before and had no issues.

Unfortunately, now all it does is go to the windows loading screen, flash the blue screen of death, and restart. I've tried safe mode and it does the same thing.

Anything simple you guys can suggest while I'm waiting for a mail from customer services?

Try a PS2 port Keyboard.

Format the Hard Drive and Start the Installation again.

Make sure Mouse and Keyboard are fitted securely into the slot.

(If the keyboard wasn't in properly how did you start the installation?)

Also what is the Blue Screen Code? Should say asomething like?

STOP: 0X00000007E

Or

ERQL (Or something is equal to: 00000009e or something.

Or

..........exe/sys caused a problem. Whats the file?

XP was preinstalled, this happened during the \"out of box experience\" bit where you setup users etc after the main install.

Oh....

In that case whats the error code?

don't get a chance to read it, it cycles out of blue screen too fast :(

Hmmm.... if its crapping out on safe mode aswell then i reckon it's probably a dodgy driver.

1st thing to try is format and reinstall of Windows.

Atleast that way your ruling out software being the problem.

Or you could go the hardware route first and start removing hardware which isn't essential.

2 sticks of RAM? Try just one stick, then try the other, try them in different slots ect...

PCI modem or Ethernet Card? Remove them.

USB keyboard? Try a PS2 keyboard.

Graphics card? Does the motherboard have onboard?

Can't do anything internal hardware as I don't wanna invalidate my warrenty ;)

Will try a reinstall when I get back home tonight, if I can rule out its not software my support 2 u warrenty kicks in :)

(advice curtesy of firerat too ;) )

Yeah, as it was an Aria Build it would have been tested before shipping. so for now we can assume that the internal components ( and drivers ) are fine.

However it wouldn’t have been tested with the Keyboard/Mouse that was shipped, so it could be that.

To Narrow it Down I have suggested booting it without the keyboard ( as we know it wasn't blue screening until it was fully plugged in )

Booting sans keyboard and mouse didn't make a difference. And when I tried a reinstall of XP as also suggested it told me I had \"no drive detected\" for hard drive and a few seconds later gave me a stop error and bluescreened.

At least now I have a stop code:

0x00008e (0x000005, 0x8081a799, 0xf6fe78, 0x000000)
