Do you get any advantages from using x4 512mb than from using x2 1GB? I was thinkin that there is more "pipelines" available, as 4 slots are used rather than 2?

The RAM would all be running at 533Mhz

2x 1GB is faster than 4x 512MB

Memory controller is only adressing 2 slots not 4, or something like that iirc.

Error rates too. More sticks = more chances of defects.

Basically, to use a really simple illustration - imagine the difference between juggling 2 balls, and juggling 4 balls. 4 balls takes FAR more concentration and coordination than 2 balls. :)

i concur always best with x2 sticks. Also on some mobos you can lose dual channel when all slots are filled which gives another 5% performance loss.

o_O so thats why new mobos have only 2 slots:P
