It doesnt allow me to select more than 8AA, which i still maintain is crap quality, and i have triple buffering too.

Just had an epic 5 hour game battling to get through a movie on the hardest mode! You really have to communicate and use a hell of a lot of teamwork to get anywhere in that mode.
Managed to get to the final stand but I have to go to bed :(

Try sticking 100 zombies on the screen at once with the Crysis engine. Just see what happens.

Left 4 Dead runs the Source engine, yes it is dated, but it is ideal for having large numbers of entities (read:zombies) on the screen at once because of its lower system requirements.
If you were to use the Crysis (Cryengine) or the Far Cry 2 (Dunia) engines then you would have better looking graphics but NO WAY IN HELL could you possibly have so many entities on screen at the same time.
You can't have hundreds of high detail entities on the screen at once. You can have a few high detail entities or lots of low detail entities.
So Left 4 Dead MUST use the latter option of lower detail, more entities, otherwise the game would not work.

That's Ravenholm. There are some internet tools which let you import other half-life:source maps into L4D, I've seen some people playing on de_dust2 from counterstrike.

Not sure how much it's going for, I think it's £26.99 on steam, possibly less now.
I got the boxed version online for £20 pre-release. Do a search on hotukdeals, might show the lowest price. I think £26.99 is worth it though.
If we get enough Aria people playing it then we can do the versus mode :)

Yeah they play as the special infected, of which there are 4 kinds with very different abilities. They must combine attacks and abilities to really cause the 4 survivors problems.

I only play single player for the achievements. It's not realy possible on multiplayer except for a few like Spinal Tap or the 100 headshots one. Although there are achievements which can only be achieved on multiplayer, like vomitting on 4 survivors at once as a Boomer.
Edit: In response to Lynx's post, I got it during the Steam January sales. The Complete Valve Pack for £38, which includes L4D. Look it up in the Steam store.

I'm managing to survive advanced mode without dying these days. There are a few tricks to learn on the levels to survive the defence areas, some of the tricks are blatant exploits :p

server fell over on a large scale, kicked me out and froze pc up for 5 mintues! tried to rejoin and could only see lynx or just alex in game and viceversa, then the plane level would load up with no one in and a connection failed message LOL

Played the hospital level in full for first time last night LOVE the ending on the rooftop, Tank didn't stand a chance with all the pipe bridges to cross etc,

Lots of people joined me yesterday in a campaign. I was trying to complete No Mercy on Expert to get the achievement for completing a level on expert, and had Alex, some Irish guy called Eamonn, and a mate of mine who lives up there *points* in the next village.

That was so hard! I think the problem was that we started the level on very little health so we had nothing to see us through to the end.
After you left I managed to get about 5 meters from the saferoom on 1hp and final knockdown then died. Got frustrated at that point and quit!
I might buy it tomorrow when I go shopping in trafford centre lol

Read a few reviews on the creative fatal1ty gamers headset and alot of them say the sound quality is pretty poor
Although its pretty cheap, i still wouldnt want to pay alot for it

His range isn't that great actually, especially if you shove him and then run backwards which is the best technique.
He can't spew on you when he stumbles after the shove so that's your window to run back a bit then blow him up. Just make sure your not shoving him into people or shove him too many times as shoving inflicts damage.
You'll see there is an achievement for this, which I have achieved :)

You can't sneak up on a boomer but they usually sneak up on you! You need to judge his distance because if he is too far away you wont shove him before he voms on you and you should run away instead.

Was that the headshot or just unloaded 10 rounds into her with the auto-shotty? It's very effective as long as your fast on the trigger. I prefer to get everyone at range with the automatic rifles and shoot her as she runs towards you. Not always an option though.

The developers commentary is interesting for someone like me who is studying motion graphics and interactive media, but in many ways it makes them sound like they thought too much about how to make the game scary, when in actual fact, I think it's more comedic than scary! Worth a play if you're into that sort of thing though. They did the same with Portal, and HL2. I've only seen the one in Portal though, and L4D obviously.
In Portal it seems like they tried too hard to teach the new concept and not let the player experiment with it on their own, which is why the game is so linear.
finished the commentary last night, thought it was pretty good. Valve cetainly put a lot of thought into their games :thumbsup:
Done half the commentary so far, it's very interesting. I noticed the subtle change in colours when certain things are happening, but I just thought that was my senses when I had to think fast.
Safe rooms are certainly very warm welcoming places, you hardly want to leave them sometimes.

theres four different movies to play, each with 5 parts. Spawn points, weapon points, gaurdian points, strategies, path to take are all different. Its probably less linear than most fps multiplayers online due to the different feel everytime you play :)

We did very well though despite the slightly scrappy defence.

Yeah that was quite comical. I think we have enough people to start thinking about playing versus mode, I know we had a couple of people who wanted to join but couldn't.

Versus is brilliant, so much harder than co-op. It's only your side than can hear you on mic far as I know.

Playing as the tank is fun but I prefer the hunter. It annoys me when people get the tank and just run at well organised survivors, you need other specials to grab someone for the tank to incap.
The tank couldn't find us! That was funny.
Is it just me, or has versus got to the point where the infected team always win? When playing against random people online, everyone who was on the infected team leaves when the teams swap at the end of each part of a movie. I get really annoyed at that, because the survivors are just as fun. It's just that you don't always win. ;)
It's not really about surviving to the end, you just have to survive longer than the opposition.
