With spyware being a big problem and worse than viruses now, what anti spyware software to keep your pc clean and running well.
I use spyware doctor and rate as the best on the market. I also use ad-ware se as a second scan to pick up anything spyware doctor has missed but it only gets a few cookies.
I challenge everybody who thinks their pc is clean of spyware to go to pc tools website download a free scan spyware doctor. I bet you will be surprised at what it finds.
The only thing they could improve is the on guard protection, its lets too much spyware to get onto the system, but the scan always picks up anything on guard didn't block
I used to run Ad-Aware every now and again, but now I just don't use anything.
For me the most annoying thing the internet has brought us is pop up's! They annoy the hell out of me more than anything else ever invented!

Barley go to www.pctools.com and download spyware doctor scan. It does not put any spyware on your pc. I reckon you will be very surprsied.
I have sorted out so many slow running pc's for friends and family using spyware doctor.
It found 169 spyware on my pc yesterday, that was just browsing the web and not downloading anything. It did warn me a couple of the site were known bad sites.
I formatted and re-installed XP yesterday, so I should be ok for now :) I usually end up formatting and re-installing every couple of months, don't know why, there always seems to be one reason or another. but when I get time I do installed Ad-Aware and give it a run.
If you want to see a perfect example of spy ware try using my sisters PC. When I was last staying with my parents she said her PC kept messing up, so I said I'd have a look at it.
OH MY GOD! The PC took over 5 minutes to load, then when it did something as simple as loading IE took over a minute! The system was infested with every type of dodgy piece of cr*p you could ever hope to not find on your PC. She even had like 7 or 8 stupid toolbars in IE advertising crap and pr0n and things like that. If she see's something that says click on it, she just does it! Even though she's been warned now too, she downloads ANYTHING and just keeps messing the system up. In the end I just gave up and told her it's her problem.

You just re-installed xp barley. It will find the spyware that comes on your software disks that are loaded on your pc without you knowing.
The worst I come across was my neices pc. It had 7500 something on it which meant a complete hard drive clean and xp re-install.
You only formatted the drive, you need to clean with disk cleaning software. You can get killdisk free on the net which will overwrite everthing securely. A few runs.
I use disk wipe with millitary disk cleaning software. germany, usa, and loads of others. They use them so any confidential information can't be retreived.

Just ran Spyware doctor it found, nothing except cookies. Which would have been deleted once IE7 had been closed.

Programs that offer to install toolbars to my broswer without me knowing i dont like.
The interface is poor & ugly. The name \"Spyware Doctor\" reminds me of an old program which gave you spyware.
A program you have to pay for, for it to delete anything.
Not impressed.
Another top tip to minimise crap being downloaded without your knowledge, use Firefox 8)

You can't get everything for free. I don't mind paying, a company has to make a profit. I used the AVG spyware removal software, they have just taken over a spyware software company. It missed 50 spyware that spyware doctor picked and they not just cookies.
My brother had spyware on his pc and used the AVG free spyware removal which missed the main problem. Spyware doctor found it and cleaned it. His pc is working upto speed now.
I have kids who use the pc's to go sites to download video's and games. Not file sharing sites but sites like youtube. It makes my pc more open to pick up nasty spyware. The others miss it. I think I have tried all the main programmes now. Like webroot products.

I have no problem paying for software, if i know the product is good.
Hence why i used AVG Free, then i was so impressed with the product i upgraded to AVG Professional.
Not once in my post did i mention Ewido Spyware Scanner.

AVG Free is the Anti Virus Scanner. I have no judgement on AVG's other products as i have no need for a Spyware Scanner.

Be careful letting your kids use Youtube there are some very dodgy things on there.
I just gave my opinion on a product you asked us to \"Spyware Doctor\" Now i downloaded the program like you said from there website.
I then installed it and it tried to install Google Toolbar to my browser which i didn't want. Lucky i went through the setup slowly eh?
Then it did a scan telling me it had found some Infectious Items, which were Cookies. Then asked me to upgrade the program to get rid of them.
In my opinion thats pretty poor, to get rid of cookies.

They used to do a free trial which update definition everyday. I had a free trial that worked for about 2 years until they blocked the updates, but it still scaned and cleaned. I had to buy the programme once I couldn't get any updates. I put it on loads of pc's of people I know. They were happy with it when it was free but when they had to pay they didn't want it. They would come to me saying my pc isnt working properly.
My daughter only watches cartoons on the site like winks, dragon ballzee and pokemon.
Just trying to make the less knowledable be aware of spyware. Most people seem to run ad-ware which really isn't upto the job, and another free one I can't remember the name of.
But at the end of the day its everybody to their own.
If the professional doesn't use ewido what does it use.
And I am not happy they have started to include google toolbar, but I have had this when buying hardware and installing drivers. It seems like a nice little earner for them. I am like you belso and don't like toolbars.
AVG Professional is Anti Virus software not Anti Spyware.
Im guessing Grisoft have purchased Ewido to add it to the suite but so far nothing.

I used to use Adaware and still have it on my USB Drive incase of an emergency.
I dont use any Anti Spyware myself, as its not needed.
Msconfig & Common sense is enough for me.

If im cleaning a clients PC which is full of crap i tend to download Windows Defender, as i find it quite good.
Although i found Beta 1 better than Beta 2 by far.
Also i use Hijackthis & Adaware if i have to.

Every program has its problem's and in no way did i intend to seem like i was attacking your post or anything.
I just gave my opinion which forums are for. 8)
