View Full Version : What should i choose?
Im am thinking of getting a pc soon, can you all tell my what you think i should get, with 500. Cant go much over 540 tho, so no overbudgeting! I would like an am2, and hopefully make a good gaming pc. Is 500 too little to get it?
£500 sould get you a reasonable mid spec gaming pc someone else was asking for a pc to be specced in another thread but they were after a more buget pc BUT you could go with the specs there and just add more memory maybe a slightly better cpu and spend £100ish on something like a 7600gt ddr3.

I would recommend something along the lines of Barleys spec but change for dual core AM2, 2gb of memory, 7600gt and get a decent psu for the case tagan or similar, or if you wanted just choose case keyboard and mouse of your choice. That should bring you upto around £500
Does this look good?

Well unless you have issues with nvidia for some reason i would still suggest paying the extra £10 or so and get the 7600gt as it is a much more capable card, check out Toms guide and compare the 2.
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/graphics/charts.html?modelx=33&model1=556&model2=529&chart=198
put in any benchmark test and the 7600gt comes out on top. Its your money but for £10-£15 more i know what i would get
Delivery should be about £10 or so depending on weight, there is a feature whilst going through the buying process on Arias site that tells you how much delivery will be.
I think something like this would be nicer, better parts all around imo...

Nice conroe build with a quiet passively cooled 7600gs. Case has 3 120mm fans, so less noise still.
If that needs kb, mouse, hdd etc to you might wanna try and stretch the budget a bit.
7600gs is crap you could have the afore 7600gt and still be pretty much in buget. Also it was a gaming rig so 2gb is almost a must these days.
I also wouldn't waste money on an aluminum case when money is so tight. A case half that price would suffice which would free up the extra £££ for the 7600gt which is MUCH more important for gaming purposes.
Ok this is something i quickly threw together it is slightly over buget @ £570ish but if yoiu nreally can't stretch that far then you can drop to 1gb of memory though i would recommend you add another gig when funds allow. Also no one has added an os yet, do you have a copy of windows already? If not then you will need to work out something about that too, maybe go for a 4 in 1 case, mouse, psu, speaker combo and drop the above to cover the cost of an os but again i thouroughly recommend upgrading the psu asap if you go that route.

A little overbudget, and i do already have HDD, KBD and Mouse.
Fair do's lose the KB, HDD and mouse and your in buget

If i can stretch to 600, what should i upgrade to?
Graphics card and psu would be my chioce maybe the 500 watt version of the psu you chose @ £60+vat and as for gfx i would suggest the 7900gs @ £130+vat.
That would turn that pc into a nice gaming rig indeed imho.

8) Looks good to me, i assume you don't need to buy windows?
Wouldn't bother for a while. Even tho i will have some cool case mods to add, can get a window later.
Um i think you misunderstood, i ment windows as in windows xp
Oh rite, got windows already.

Take it, it's the better system on the strength of the 7900gt alone.
Wouldnt it be better if i wait for the new conroe 1.8 with the 4mb cache?
Which Conroe is that? The 4000 series? If so i really doubt it as they are the buget range and for the sake of what i assume will only £20 or so the 6000 series will be the better choice by far, this is of course just my opinion.
I will have about 10 months to wait until i have saved up enough, im a student!
In that case then there will be a lot of new hardware out by then (DX10 graphics, intels quad core and amds new cpu range) so speccing and costing up something now is kinda a waste of time, noi  . Though i guess it gives you something to work towards 8) .
