I just bought the following and received it yesterday. Set everything up and came to power up my new htpc and...... nothing happened! Am thinking the psu supplied is dead as when I switch it on there are no flickers from the fans or any other signs of life at all. Any one got any suggestions?

LG GGC-H20L Blu-Ray/HD DVD-ROM, DVDRW SATA Black Retail Kit
AMD Phenom Quad 9500 2.2GHz (OEM with PWM heatsink & Fan AM2+)
Arianet Synergy HTPC Media Centre Case
1TB Samsung Spinpoint F1 SATA2 7200RPM 32MB cache
Abit A-N78HD Socket AM2 / AM2+ Motherboard
Kingston 2GB PC2-8500 HyperX nVIDIA (2x1GB)

If its the psu thats included with the case then theres a 99% chance its that... just make sure everything is plugged in properly and if that doesnt work then check the power switch isnt faulty by shorting the pins on the motherboard with a screw driver... if it still doesnt work RMA the case :)

Yes it's the 400w psu that came with the case, was wondering whether it was any good or not. Will try shorting the pins when I get home.

Do you think that psu isn't powerful enough? If so what would you recommend? Have tested the psu on a motherboard with a 20 pin power socket and the led lit up so I know power is there. Am unable to test the 4+4 power connectors, is there any point in me buying a 4 to 8 pin convertor to test it that way?

PSU's that come with cases, especially cheap cases, are notoriously bad. It may say 400w on it but that will be absolute max for possibly a phemtosecond if you are lucky.

Either way I would seriously recommend getting a decent psu, you don't need to spend a lot £30-£40 this is highly recommended around here.
