Is it possible to connect the Wii to the Internet via some sort of cable, rather than wireless? If so, what? I note that there are two USB ports on the back. Does the Wii have some sort of network adaptor style thing?

My brother's modem also has a USB connector on the back. Would it be just a case of buying a USB cable and connecting one end to the Wii and the other to the modem?

Many thank yous!

You need a usb-ethernet adaptor for the wii.

Oh, so I can't just run a USB cable from the Wii to the USB port on the modem?

Hmm, maybe a new wireless router would be the better option then. One which routes more than one Ethernet port.

My brother currently has a BT Voyager 220v, connected to a Buffalo AirStation WHR-G54S. The AirStation provides a wireless connection to the PC upstairs as well as to his Wii. None of the Ethernet ports are used. He called me round today because he couldn't connect to it, either on the Wii or his PC. So I took it upstairs and tried to connect via Ethernet, which also failed. I simply couldn't access the router in any way, even after resetting and all that jazz.

After my experience with Homeplug I thought it'd be a good idea to take that route to eliminate the wifi, but have just found out that the BT Voyager 220v only routes one Ethernet port, although it does have a USB type A connector on it, as well as a USB type B connector.

So would the best option actually be to replace both the Buffalo AirStation and the BT Voyager with a wireless router with built-in modem, like the Netygear DG834G?

I would say in the long run it would be a tidy little investment. I’m running a DG834G V3 as we speak and I’ve never really had any major problems. If I have had any small problem people are usually quick to answer because it is such a well known model.

Good luck whatever you decide to do

Just done some research and apparently –

“In order to connect the Wii console to a wired access point (such as a wired router or broadband modem*), you will need the Wii LAN Adapter. The Wii LAN Adapter enables a connection from an ethernet port on your wired access point, to one of the USB ports on the back of the Wii console. Please note that other, non-Nintendo manufactured devices may not work correctly with the Wii console.”

Also The Wii LAN Adapter is available only through Nintendo. :|

This was taken from Nintendo’s customer support website.

IMHO Still think you would e better buying a new router! :P

Thanks dude. The router does seem to be the best option. That's what people have said on other forums where I've asked this question too, so I think I'll take that route.

Pun not intended.
