Can a AGPx8 card work in a AGPx4 slot?

Yes but it will run at AGP 4x but you may have to be careful on voltages some agp cards are 1.5v not 3.3c
ahh ok, n i'm guessing its the same for PCI-e 1.1 vs PCI-e 2.0
Nope, PCI-E is completely backwards compatible, its just bandwidth they allow, PCI-E 2 has double that of 1.
Ahhh, finally some good news 4 me =]
Ummm, staying on the topic of graphics cards...my computer has a 210W PSU, various power calculators say my current card (radeon 9200SE 128mb) and all the other parts of the computer @ all at 90% loading will use 194W. The 8400GS requires 196W and the 8500GT requires 199W...the 8400GS should work no problem, so should the 8500GT but would getting a XFX passively cooled 8500GT requires less power than the 8400GS?
Nope, a passively cooled one means that you need more airflow or it will overheat. Passive ones draw same power. Give it a go, i still reckon that you need a new psu. Especially with a P4 and 4.5GHZ.
surely the same card but with a fan would draw more power? As power is needed to turn the fan.
When it was @4.49Ghz :P its just a P4HT 3.0Ghz (that gives out the equivlant power of 4.49Ghz) the clock is at CPU speed.
How does it give out the equivilant of 4.5ghz???? The power of the fan is minimal honestly. And as for the cpu, can you explain this?
Thats what it said on "www.systemrequirementslab"...maybe this was stupid putting this :P
So you think I should go with the 8400GS, as the passive cooling doesn't really make a difference?
I hope your not playing games? LOL :)
I would play COD4 probably and BF2/2142...is there a problem? =]
Thats the equivilant as a comparison of cpu to cpu i reckon. My cpu came out at 5.9 which i think is a bit poor, but i dont hve it overclocked properly.
MY brother has a 2.2ghz turion x2 and that came out at 4.9 (that has 2 physical cores) :P and was only 500mhz quicker -.-
But would you say, that a 8400GS should be ok? The power calculator seems to be fine...could u check it out (see what u think) http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp
Thx =]
