I'm going to get some cheap memory to upgrade this laptop with before selling it on.

Currently I have a 512MB Kingston PC-2700 SODIMM installed, I want to go for at least 1GB RAM obviously but what I want to know is there any reason it might not support 2GB?

The reason I ask this is because all the sony documentation I read says 1GB is the max (512MB in each slot).
The kingston website says the same but that's 512MB in each slot or 1GB in one slot and nothing in the other. So what's stopping me putting 1GB in each and having 2GB?

Review websites say it supports 2GB. So I need opinions on this please!

does the kingston site have the same checker as the crucial one?

Crucial website says 2GB is supported.

http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/listparts.aspx?model=VAIO%20VGN-A117S

EDIT: digging has reavealed the chipset Intel 855GM (http://www.intel.com/Products/Notebook/Chipsets/855GM/855GM-overview.htm) supports 2GB RAM.

Sony says 1GB, Intel say 2GB. Confused!

 Its £55 for 1GB of the stuff!

If I were in america I could buy 1GB for $49. Outrageous! Thats £38 inc vat. WTF.

Gonna buy 512MB 17802to take it up to 1GB (I know its technically not on the compatibility list but that's what I have in there already and it works :p). Spending £55 on something I want to sell is a bad idea.
