i have searched and searched and i am wondering if when i SLI my current 1GB 8800gt card with another 512mb 8800gt card how much address space will it use up? I want all the RAM i can squeeze out of it. i know that x2 512mb cards will use up 1GB of address space and x2 1GB cards will use up 2GB of address space. So will the 1gb + 512mb use up 1GB total or 1.5GB total but still only utilize 512mb each? I think most of the kinks with compatibility in SLI have been worked out.
I am not sure the kinks have been worked out. I understand that there used to be a patch for these to work but only with old drivers. (Coolbits registry string) I believe the new drivers do not support cards with different memory amounts or at least you could have loads of trouble trying to get them to work. If you did get them to work the 1gb card would be seen as a 512mb as they have to work together.
I stand to be corrected if I am wrong!

as it stands at the mo you can use card with different buffers but you will only get use of the smallest size for both so in your case the 1gb would only use half its ram.
this is due to the way it works with each card doing alternate frames so they both have the same data, so if 1 card can only hold so much data its as much as the other can store.
as for the addressing, i think windows will still alocate them the full 1.5gb even if its not all used.
64bit os time?
