Recently put some stuff up on gumtree for sale. Old computer parts etc. Someone got in contact about my RAM. Seemed legit and all, but I am a very suspicious person, especially with selling or buying online.

Anyway got an email back saying they wanted the RAM, asked me to send a money request. Emailed me back saying they sent the money plus an extra £20 for delivery or some rubbish. I got two confirmation emails from service@intl.paypal.com.

Now I believe these emails are a load of horse raddish as they arent the same as the usual service@paypal.com and they spelt my name wrong they put:

Dear, ain McGonigle instead of Iain, paypal couldn't possibly get that wrong as it is automated.

Anyway my account says I still havent been paid so I am not sending the stuff, wondering what I should do next? Report / block this user? I can upload the emails for you to look at, they claim they had a daughter in Nigeria working for a tele comms company :scratch Yeah right I said..

So yeah how do I report this scum!? and block them from my gmail?

Thanks,
Iain

Sounds fishy to me...if there's no cash in your PP account (check international transactions just to be sure) then they can go to hell for your RAM... not sure how to block them from Gmail (don't use it) but you should defo report it to eBay come the morning.

Yeah scamming :censored:'s

I was using gumtree actually, so should I give them a shout? Maybe even paypal to block their account or something?

Never encountered that before, I can see why people get sucked into those scams though, if you're in no way alert to them I bet you can get stung easily

Gumtree / Paypal / ebay are all basically the same company! (or group).

The moment a name is spelt wrong or not used.. walk away!
Also unless you were wanting some super specialist gear would you buy it 2nd hand from another country and pay over the odds? NOPE!

Tbh I'd rather sell a bit cheaper for a cash buyer if it was me! less hassle, job done.

Gumtree is not part of eBay.

eBay own PayPal, they set it up when ebay first started to get popular.

Ha that site is pretty awesome, might make a scam bait for them.

Btw guys I got another email today from a "david" same sort of layout looking for a bundle deal on 4 items I posted. I emailed back asking them to confirm they want the item delivered within the UK. As why would you bother if you werent right?

Anyway I'll see what thy say back, doesn't feel legit though

No, sorry you are 100% incorrect.

Ebay (well technically the company "Kijiji" which is a subsidiary of ebay) bought gumtree in 2005.

Unless they pick it up in person, dont sell it them via gumtree mate
