Hi i ve been asked to build a new system for a friend of my parents i ve not met before, they have a 12 year old son whos asked for a laptop for xmas but i told them its not worth it might as well get a pc.

Heres what i have Come Up With:
17" Hanns-G Widecreen Monitor 8ms Response Time 1440 x 900 Resolution
Arianet Black and Silver Keyboard - PS/2
Sweex Optical Mouse. Black / Silver PS/2
OZAKI CM688B 2.1 800w speakers (2 Speakers, 1 Sub Woofer)
Arianet Concerto Piano Black Micro ATX Case Includes 420W PSU, Front USB
LG GH20NS10 20x DVDRW SATA
360GB Seagate Barracuda 10 SATA II
MSI P6NGM-L Nvidia MCP73U/PV/V Socket 775 Motherboard
(Max 1066FSB CPU, Max 4GB 800Mhz RAM)
Intel Pentium Dual Core E2220 2x 2.4GHz (800FSB)
Arianet 2x1GB PC2-6400 DDR2 SDRAM (Two Matching Sticks = Dual Channel Mode, 800MHZ)
Club 3D ATI Radeon HD 4670 512MB PCI-E2.0 Grahpics (GPU 750 MHz , 1746 MHz GDDR3)
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edtion
USRobotics USR5416 802.11g Wireless Turbo PCI Adapter (Got laying Around They Can Have)
£390

Compared to £400 Dual Core 2.0GHz, Genuine Windows Vista, 2GB Memory, 320GB Hard Drive, Onboard nVidia GeForce 7050 Graphics Acer Aspire M1640/E2180 with 19" TFT @ PCWORLD

The Part i need advice/help with is i m an nVidia card owner since Geforce 6 (i ve had a Radeon 9800XT but none since that)

i need the best GFX card on like a 60£ budget so i either go XFX GeForce 9500GT
256MB PCI-E 2.0 or Club 3D ATI Radeon HD 4670 512MB PCI-E2.0 Grahpics

reviews say 4670 faster but i know nvidia have the physx now on gpu ...need help?

Why go for the 2Gb and 1Gb of ram?

If you will loose performance by doing so, the board will not run in dual channel mode.

ie Vista 2Gb in daul chanel DDr667 gives 5.9 where as single chanel 3Gb gives 5.1
(that was 2x1Gb and 3x1Gb)

If you're going to get plenty of Ram (4Gb) get Vista x64

The Seagate 7200.10 is a model old.. if the budget stretches get a 500Gb Samsung F1 Faster and quieter

Either go for 2x1GB with 32bit windows, or 2x2 with 64bit Vista :)

95gt is that slow m8 if you did run physix on it it would struggle to give you a picture, if you intend to get a faster gpu and run physix on the 95gt only and the graphics on the other card then yea.

i would say the 4600 as its a better gpu and you can run physix on ati cards too, google has the answers.

please dont get a board with a 3 year old chipset m8.

look at the nvidia 650 or intel p35 chipsets so you have room to upgrade your cpu in the future.

i ve revised the list to a nForce 610 chipset to get 800Mhz ram, changed to 2x 1Gb sticks Dual Channel and looks like i ll bite the bullet and go for the 4760 Radeon as clock speads on gpu is the fastest for the price and memory is only a tad slower then the 9500gt

the system is not ment for upgrading in the next year they plan on using the system as is for like 2/3 years so buy then evertyhings gonna have changed the mayjor problem that has been the hardest is they wanted a Small System at a cheap price then threw the gaming on at the last minute so its like had to change everything

and they dont like Vista had to be XP, dont blame them, they originaly planned on buying a 400 £ laptop then they saw offers at pc world and lol there laughable we'll give u a **** 1.6ghz with 2gb ram and 160gb hd and onbaord gfx with a 20"TFT for like 319 to 350£

One thing I would pick up on (and i'm pretty sure everyone else would say the same thing) is to make sure you get a good PSU with it... Get a good quality, branded PSU, and not the one that comes with the case.. :)

clocks mean next to nothing with gpu unless your comparing the same chip, this might help;

other sites do the same like anand, 3dguru and more.
