Quick question....

Recertified - 1500GB Capacity, SATA 3GB/s Interface, 7200RPM Spin Speed, 8.5ms Average Seek Time, 32MB Cache, 1 Year Warranty.

Does this mean they are second user?

A clean pull is normally something which has been in a pre-built system somewhere made by a big OEM. It's sat around and not been sold, then the drive is 'pulled' when the stock is discontinued or broken up for parts. As such you've got a drive which isn't 'brand new' (i.e it's been screwed into a machine) but which hasn't actually seen any real use.

Manufacturer recertified is exactly what it sounds like. A previously used drive which has gone back to the manufacturer, been rigorously health checked (and maybe serviced, not sure?) and then recertified by that manufactuer (segate, samsung, whoever) as being in good working condition and fit for resale.

So basically a clean pull should be more or less as good as a new drive, although it may not come with a full warrantly. A recertified drive should be a much safer bet than a second-hand drive, sort of mid-way between second hand and brand new.

At least, that's my understanding.

Caviar is consumer level branding or range scorpio is laptop sized, and the colours indicate performance - Green = low power/low perf Blue = general use/general perf black = high perf.

Samsungs, spinpoint is the branding (consumer level 3.5" range) spinpoint M = laptop
F1/F3 =performance (not as high as WD black, but higher than blue)
F4/eco green = low power like WD green

Seagate Barracuda = consumer desktop 3.5" momentus = laptop
green = green
ST..... = general use
XT.... = high performance

Caviar Black is often used for cheap pro/enterprise usage too. WD RE range is the true server / workstation models but costs a bomb.
