I get the impression that they are also contacting the phone companies for the details of existing users too.

Hmm time to buy a couple of Pay as you go sim cards ;)

To be honest i dont mind this happening as i mean at the end of the day it will help stop crime and terrorist and will save lives.

I mean what did it say again theres 40million people in the uk using mobile phones?

I mean theres 1 in 40millions chances of them picking your number seeing who you have been calling etc... Big deal, even if they do pick your number then what? There not exactly going to go on a website with every person they look into and tell the world what they have been upto. Not only is that a privacy issue but if that did happen to me then id be taking the goverment to court for millions.

All in all it works out good :)

Dont think its going to be that simple, i think there going to have to scan the passport in via the chip or if it doesnt have one type in the passport number to see if its valid.

If tey dont do that then how do they expect to find out who owns the mobile by the customer just showing they do have a password but nothing logged in the system.

So maybe this is another good things, helps stops id fraud.

I wonder what the acceptable alternative to a passport will be, probably a photo driving license knowing my luck, I have neither!

I have never had a passport and I have an old paper driving license still

I thought everyone who has a paper driving license had to get it changed to the new one by a certain date?

I've not heard anything, and my license doesn't expire for nearly 30 years!

I thought it was just if you updated your details, like address or have points removed/added etc.. then you have to get it replaced with a photo licence?

yep and they charge you £17.50 for the privilege.

I am not sure, but I think if you change your address it's free, but I am not sure if you get an upgrade to a phot license at the same time.

I think you might be right actually.. But i'm pretty sure that you have to pay for points as well..

Not to change your address it doesnt. you send your paper licence off then they'll ask you to send a pic and automatically change it over for you for free.

Not realy, just move back to your parents house (on paper of course) and then move back to your house a couple of months later ;)

Oh and don't forget house prices are plummeting so your couple of 100k will now be a lot less :(

It appears easy to forge documents these days. I can't see it being that effective anyway.
You can speak in code. And turn the phone off when committing a crime so that the masts don't trace it.
