Hey guys,

I was considering registering a domain name soon and I was wondering who you'd recommend. I thought it might be worth double checking before I took the plunge.

Many thanks,

godaddy, one of the few that actually allow you to delegate to different nameservers :thumb:

Thanks for your reply :) That's good, I was planning to go with godaddy, so that gives me a vote of confidence!

I've used GoDaddy and 123-reg with no problems

Thanks guys. Does anyone know how you can prevent them publishing your details on WHOIS?

Godaddy charge you about £6 for it, pretty sure others do the same too

I use UKREG.. definitely as cheap as any of the others, and a huge amount of options for web/email forwarding, changing nameservers etc..

Names that came up every time someone asks this question. Usually every month or so.

Me, I use 123-reg. Not the cheapest perhaps, but there isn't much in it and they keep customers informed.

GoDaddy CEO shoots elephants (here (http://mashable.com/2011/03/31/godaddy-ceo-elephant/))

123-reg or Tsohost imo :)

Just for registering a domain, there's not much between any of them really. Go for the cheapest that allow you to specify different nameservers & don't charge for transferring.

I've used Nativespace for about 40 domains & 30 websites for the last few years; never had any issues.

Sorry to go off topic, but if you watch the video, the elephant was culled for a reason, it was destroying crops which was causing people to starve, thus removing the elephant means people can eat a decent crop and also no meat was put to waste.

They all do the same dam thing!

It is the way they allow you to manage your domain that makes one company better than another.

I found GoDaddy a pain at first and took me a long time to understand their system.

But 123-reg.co.uk to be so flipping easy! You just buy the domain, log in, and set your NameServers. EASY!

It is up to you.

Every one has their favored provider for everything from internet to supermarket.

I have used Domainmonster without any problems. I have quite a few domains with them and they do not charge for hiding personal details from WHOIS which is mainly why I used them. They have a good domain management control panel too.

Thanks for all the feedback guys, it's really helpful. This is my first time properly registering a website for myself and this has all given me a good insight. I might not go with Godaddy now as I've learnt they charge to hide WHOIS. My only worry is that with a smaller company I'd have more problems if anything were to go wrong?

123-reg is hardly a "smaller company".

Good point though.

regdotter.co.uk is run by my friend, who i know you wont have problems :). I buy all my domains from him and he's been very reliable indeed!.

As far as I know, Domainmonster.com is not a "smaller company". I think it is quite popular. They have telephone support/quick email support and I have never had any problems with them. As I said, they have a good domain management control panel and do not charge for you to hide your details from WHOIS.

I would rate them 5/5.
They charge £5.98 for 2 years (minimum term) for .co.uk and £8.49 per year for a .com.
You can find out more details here: http://www.domainmonster.com/domains/

They have a whole range of domain extensions to choose from too!

Don't use GoDaddy..please!

Use TSOHost or Vidahost. Same goes for hosting. It's free to hide your info from WHOIS lookups on TSOHost, pretty sure the same goes for Vidahost.
